Ableton 9.7 Public Beta
Ableton 9.7 Public Beta
Anyone got any infoz regarding this?
Seen something on Musicradar about it. Given the limited details, it looks to be heavily geared towards Push..
Ableton Live 9.7 features
New slicing functions – chop samples by beat divisions or regions, as well as manually or by transients.
New drum layout – with 16 set velocity levels for playing and programming more dynamic beats.
Hands-on audio routing – select and record ins and outs directly from Push for sampling external or internal audio without disrupting your flow.
Visual feedback for tighter recordings – new display info shows clip phase and count-in so you can start and finish clip recordings more accurately.
Hands-on color customisation – color pads, tracks and clips using Push to make your performance easier.
Better playability – pad sensitivity adapts to what you play, whether it's drums or sustained chords.

Re: Ableton 9.7 Public Beta
Im still undecided on buying push. I probably should.
Re: Ableton 9.7 Public Beta
I'm testing it since a few days. New slicing modes plus the additional Push 2 features are amazing. Reconsidering my Octatrack GAS now because you can do A LOT with this set up. Maybe more than I actually need.
Re: Ableton 9.7 Public Beta
I must be working in the dark ages because I can't imagine working differently than I do. Is it really worth spending the money on this. Is it better for production or live performance?

I'd spent that money on push 2 between those choices. Octatrack can't even compete.Mono-xID wrote:I'm testing it since a few days. New slicing modes plus the additional Push 2 features are amazing. It's the perfect answer to those that say they can't stand looking at a screen or insist that they need to twiddle knobs to make music. If that's important to you and you don't want the compromises going full hardware entails, then yes, I think it's worth it.Mslwte wrote:I must be working in the dark ages because I can't imagine working differently than I do. I don't really care about those things and I love using it just as a different way of composing. I don't tend to make the same things with a mouse/keyboard vs using Push.
Not used the new update yet, I have literally no time for making music at the moment
Re: Ableton 9.7 Public Beta
Same here man, I can barely imagine changing that much to how I work, or better :Mslwte wrote:I must be working in the dark ages because I can't imagine working differently than I do. Is it really worth spending the money on this. Is it better for production or live performance?
I can imagine changing, but I don't see much need for change, I'm quite happy with how it all works nowadays.
It doesn't cost any money, it's a free update.
Ableton sent out an email saying it's free.

I own Push 2 but never using it to it's full potential. Since I own the RYTM and the A4, Push 2 is collecting dust. Just can't get rid of it because it's by all means the beautifullest, best integrated DAW controller I've seen. The build quality is supreme imo. The Abes didn't take no shorts with that device.Huck Farper wrote:I'd spent that money on push 2 between those choices. Octatrack can't even compete.Mono-xID wrote:I'm testing it since a few days. Oh I meant for the complete push . It's about £500 I think.Hades wrote:Same here man, I can barely imagine changing that much to how I work, or better :Mslwte wrote:I must be working in the dark ages because I can't imagine working differently than I do. Ive thought about getting an MPC1000 before. Would it probably be a better option as I could do MPC style work with push?Planar wrote:It's the perfect answer to those that say they can't stand looking at a screen or insist that they need to twiddle knobs to make music. Re: Ableton 9.7 Public Beta
I use it in a very MPC style when chopping up basslines etc, so I'd say yes. With Push you get all your vsts, and Ableton is still there to be used like normal. The pads are nice to play on. As Mono said, its a fucking nice bit of kit as well; really well made.
An MPC is maybe more portable? I dunno how capable an MPC is really, so maybe it has some advanntages I'm not aware of.

Re: Ableton 9.7 Public Beta
Been running it the last few days, bit of instability with some plugins... Soundtoys Rack and D16... had a few crashes... and the machine going unrespnsive. So beware.

well, these are two of my most used plugins, msl wrote:Been running it the last few days, bit of instability with some plugins... Soundtoys Rack and D16... had a few crashes... and the machine going unrespnsive. So beware.

so no way I'm gonna go for 9.7 untill that's proven to be more stable.
please let me know when both these plugins run with no problems Michael,
I really hate it when Live is crashing all the time.

Re: Ableton 9.7 Public Beta
No crashes with Soundtoys or D16 here. And I use both companies plug-ins A LOT. These crashes might depends on your system? I'm no expert in these things though.
Re: Ableton 9.7 Public Beta
are you on mac Michael ?
if so, using VST or AU ?
I used to use AU all the time, but after switching to VST's, I find them to be way more stable for 90% of the plugins I use.

It's Beta software, you use it at your own risk. If you install it, run it alongside the stable version.Hades wrote: so no way I'm gonna go for 9.7 untill that's proven to be more stable.
Re: Ableton 9.7 Public Beta
Man push has been in my head forever. Still undecided.
I think i just have to email the store and ask if I can try it out.

I know that much Planar, thank you.Planar wrote:It's Beta software, you use it at your own risk. If you install it, run it alongside the stable version.Hades wrote: so no way I'm gonna go for 9.7 untill that's proven to be more stable.
And I would always run it alongside the previous version.
But the thing is that with external plugins, it happens a LOT that even when they make it into an official Live release,
it can still crash for quite some time until they sorted out the problem.
I can understand it's partly not their problem,
it could very well be that it's the fault of Soundtoys or D16.
But I don't care. I just wanna make music, and not have Live crash on me whenever I decide to use plugins that I use all the fucking time.
After all, I paid for all my licenses. It's their job to make sure it works, not mine.
Back when D16 released a new version of their Sigmund plugin,
I happily installed the upgrade, only to find out Live didn't recognize ALL of my clips and projects where I used the older version.
After a few emails back and forth, they told me that apparantly the internal structure of the plugin had been changed so much that Live didn't recognize it anymore.
And yeah, running 2 versions at the same time was NOT an option...
All they had to say was : "well sir, better just re-install the old version and finish all the projects you use it in"
Yeah, as if...
So pardon me when I don't want to think from the IT kind of perspective, but more from a musicians kind of perspective.
I have no real need nor interest for a new Live version,
though of course, I will install it eventually,
but I'll gladly let other people test it all out until I suspect most stuff runs stable.
Of course crashes can still happen, I know that, things go wrong, that's just how it goes in our non perfect world,
but I don't want to update only to find out I'm working with a way more unstable program now.
So even after this has been release officially, I'll gladly wait for a while until I hear from people I trust that this version is stable enough.

of course you can.Alume wrote:Man push has been in my head forever. Still undecided.

with stores like music store and thomann,
you have a 30 day return policy, no questions asked,
just make sure they return your money, and not just some "voucher" for the price you paid.
Never tried it out, so can't tell from personal experience how it all works practically.

I was actually thinking to myself when I posted, "I bet he replies with Sigmund". You need to let that shit go, Mr Hades...Hades wrote:
