Softube Modular
I know some of you guy's don't like modular's and others have walls full of racks, but imo you must be daft in your head for not checking this out anyway.
I haven't heard anything like this in software land yet, Diva comes close but this thing is in a league of it's own imo as it's just like this thing is alive.
Never thought I'd be the one who'd like patching cables until now. I'm totally hooked and I have a feeling I'll be selling a lot of my other Vst synths since there is so much fun to be had with this beast.

Re: Softube Modular
nope, still not interested. Patching virtual cables is as distracting from the musical process as real ones are.
I`m a musician, not an electrical repair man, give me an instrument and I will do interesting things with it, but I don`t want to have to build it before I can use it......

Re: Softube Modular
Same here. A small modular rig as a sound source for weird stuff to resample, okay. But as an instrument? Hell no. Plus this move from Softube smells like a jump onto the "Modular-Hype" train to me.Lost to the Void wrote:nope, still not interested. Re: Softube Modular
It`s a fine balance in techno, between being a musician and an engineer.
The modular stuff adds another level of engineering and farting about that I can`t deal with.
It`s weird, people I know who used to go on about fiddling too much and wanting hardware because... ease of use, immediacy etc, then bought in to the modular fashion, and now end up fiddling about just to generate 1 sound, for lot longer than before, and getting less consistent success. It`s weird how mimetic and fashion led techno has become.
all the little sheepies are told, elektron or whatever is the thing, and then all the little sheepies do, then it`s modular, and all the little sheepies do. It`s the same with the vinyl fashion....
And as sad as it is for me to say this, all my mates who have got modulars, their music no longer sounds as good as it used to, and also sounds more like each other, despite having different systems.
That`s not to say you can`t make great stuff with a modular, I know some guys who make nice stuff (generally they piss about and then resample from the good bits), but meh..... It takes me away from the ideas in my head, and the technology starts dictating the ideas.... I no likey....

Re: Softube Modular
Modular is overrated. But am I tool who likes flashing lights and twiddling knobs and stuff? yes. I'm the biggest tool in the planet.

Re: Softube Modular
I just bought flashing lights for my studio to satiate that need.
Re: Softube Modular
I know people who have vast amounts of hardward, with a lot of modular. There people just jam with it and get amazing results.
The appeal to them is creating music in one take and being done with it.
There are many ways to bake a cake.

Re: Softube Modular
I do find it interesting that softube are making instruments now. Their effects are amazing.
Maybe after all this modular blarg they might make some nice vsti. That would be great.

Re: Softube Modular
I wish they do that as well, I have really no idea how to patch a modular properly yet I'm just messing with the presets at the moment.Lost to the Void wrote:I do find it interesting that softube are making instruments now. Their effects are amazing.

For my part this is something fresh, something to keep me interested in vst synths. And the sound is second to none imo so I really do hope they make more synths.
Stacie; amen to that, use what you have fun using and be done with it
Re: Softube Modular
That's good to know. Dongle copy protection is just a totally outdated system and did/does it ever stop the plugins getting cracked?Hades wrote:soundtoys works without it now !Wiu wrote:ewwwww iLok

Looks interesting, and at a good price too. Gotta admit I'm tempted, but fear the tech/creativity balance in my studio/myself might become weighted too much towards tech.

The whole point of the modular revival was to get away from the computer screen, but whatever.

I'm not a modular guy at all and I wish they would have just made a regular synth thb.msl wrote:The whole point of the modular revival was to get away from the computer screen, but whatever.

But there are two reasons I picked this up;
1. Softube make amazing fucking shit.
2. I kinda wanted to learn to patch a modular without getting a modular
And boy do I not regret those 75$ cause this thing screams and howls and in a good way, my jaw is literally on the floor every time I'm playing with it.

Oh really? I thought it was to make amazing sounds.......
Actually I thought it was to take pictures for facebook pages, and it seems, it mostly is.
Staring at a screen, staring at flashing lights..... Its all the same thing anyway.
