It was definitely cool seeing this on my timeline as I am a fan of Ken Ishii. I am not sure if I will enter myself because I feel I am not quite skilled enough (yet) to enter such a competition, but who knows! It might be good practice for me :-)

What a massively uninspiring track/parts. I'm guessing 90% of people entering this will use an existing track they have sitting about, add a few of the 'key' samples in the background and just send it in. A track like this really doesn't need a whole fucking release of remixes does it!?

I think they did that on purpose. Obviously the winner will be the one who got most creative with the samples.

Yeah but in this case, the more creative you get, the further it will go from any part being obviously from the original, so you won't win anyway. I'd rather spend the time working on something original of my own. I'm sure they'll get a shit tonne of entries anyway, but like I say, I'd bet a fair percentage will just be people using old half finished tracks and throwing a few of the samples at it.

Yeah it says have at least 1 recognisable part haha. Could easily pull an aphex twin on that one.
Nice prizes though. Pretty rare to see. Usually it's like a link on their social networks and being included in the release. I've also seen a couple where you win dinner with the original artist, and another where you win a 1 hour skype session. Can't imagine either of those being awkward at all.

There was already 120 or so entries on the soundcloud group. Most remix competitions I avoid since they're for huge things and require unrealistic amounts of social media support. I might give it a shot.

Anyone had success with remix competitions? They seem like a potential way to break through and get exposure. Or are they typically won by established/mid-career artists?

Downloaded the samples just out of curiosity. Worst remix pack I've ever came across.

Yeah, when I flicked through the samples...
Wouldn't mind but Ken Ishii is right up there.
Expected it to be a bit more interesting.

I found that remixes are a good personal challenge.
Think it's because you know you have to finish the track, there's a deadline and it has to stand up against other tracks (and you work on it with an awareness of that).

Having said that, it's a while since I bothered with them.

Pretty sure the competition doesn't rely on any social media support, the label owner chooses the best ones I think.

Now I understand the huge prices for the winner. It's hard to come up with something decent with these samples.

Well, I'm going to enter--though since it's been ages since I've done a proper techno track, I can't vouch for the quality

Couple months ago I've decided to join their previous remix comp (it was by ... San, can't remember the first name) and the stems were messy just like this one. I guess it's their way of testing people.

Remix competitions as a way to "break through" are pointless - nobody cares about them except for fellow amateur producers. Not to mention, if you can make a really good remix, you should be able to make a really good original record, which will get you much more exposure than some remix competition ever will.
