New Ø Phase album on Token Records
Hi Guys, what do you think of the new ø Phase album? I haven't had the time to give it a listen yet. Has anyone did yet? I'm curious about it because of the earlier work of him.
Let me know

Some of it is pretty decent but overall I was pretty disappointed... I don't know what I was expecting exactly but none of the tunes seemed to jump out at me. Could be a slow burner.

Where I can listen ?

I feel the same, loved some of his previous tracks, but these ones didn't really grab me on a first listen.Neal wrote:Some of it is pretty decent but overall I was pretty disappointed... I`ve always found phase to be rather mundane, well produced but... Mediocre.

Just been listening to a couple of his tracks from his new album, nothing really jumped out at me, really like some of his other tracks though

You could say the same thing about most modern techno.Lost to the Void wrote:I`ve always found phase to be rather mundane, well produced but... Mediocre.

The fact is that a lot of producers are simply imitating another. Although I didn't had that idea with O phase at first, I certainly did get that feeling with this albumBarfunkel wrote:You could say the same thing about most modern techno.Lost to the Void wrote:I`ve always found phase to be rather mundane, well produced but... Well... the problem is when a producer go far away from "standard" techno sound, "nobody" is interested, neither labels, DJs...
Originality is severely punished, even if a producer has a BIG name.

...and I have to say that I expected "more" as well...

There's a line between being original and just being weird for weird's sake. I don't know for a fact, but I think that if you write a really good techno track that's original too, it'll get released by a nice label AND played by DJ's. Could be just my romantic notion though.blnn wrote:Well... the problem is when a producer go far away from "standard" techno sound, "nobody" is interested, neither labels, DJs...

This is definitely a challenge. You want your tracks to fit in with most of what's being DJ'd but also sound unique. One aspect that helps if you want to be different but 'accepted' is, use a lot of the same tools everyone else is using and make sure all the right frequencies are there.Barfunkel wrote:There's a line between being original and just being weird for weird's sake. Mote-Evolver is a great example. I imagine a lot their artists use the same tools but they all sound unique.
In pop, if you want to be on the radio, you have to sound like the radio...
Listening back to Phases album. I'm really liking it - its a grower.

I find his older productions are way better

Glad I'm not the only one who thinks like that
