Bought it yesterday! Also interested in controlling it via midi. Someone did this with a esx or
with somerhing else? Somebody used a pedal to controll it?

I got the fb v1, and really love it. Ive had it for half a year maybe, but still feel there is lot to learn about it. Been using it mostly on percusion to make it sound more "alive" and dynamic, and I feel it does the trick for me, but dont have that much experience with other analog filters.

He's quick on the emails back. I'm sure he'll keep you on the straight.
Herman is an all-round sweet and very helpful guy.
I went to pick up my 2x2 Sherman at his place,
and when he showed me the Rodec Restyler as well, I spent another hour DJ'ing with his DJ setup while checking out the Restyler and eventually got one of those as well...

Herman rules !!

I once read someone (not sure if it was here or on mnml.nl when I was still active there (seems like ages ago now) ) saying how you can just hit a certain key on your keyboard,
and that send a MIDI message which puts the Sherman in "non-overdrive" mode.
In other words, the Sherman is standard (every time you turn it on) put in a mode that it will kick in as soon as the input gets too loud,
but you can shut this off by hitting the right key on your controller keyboard.

Can't remember which key that was though.
Haven't tried it out yet either.
Before Pedro arrived in august, I ahdn't turned my 2x2 on in at least 6 months...
Shame on me.

Yes, I know, I have too much gear. :P

Going to his place (probably) next week. If it's not in the manual, I'll try not to forget and ask him.

I've been using mine to effect machinedrum patches, one of my favorite things to do is to leave the gated reverb on and distort that along with the drum hit, makes for some really cool metalic misty sounds.

Did a series of jams where I recorded a whole machinedrum kit in mono through it and got some great results, kinda squashed everything together in a very dynamic way, i'll upload the demo is anyone's' interested in how it sounds, its pretty spooky though

Man.. Mnml! Seems like a lifetime ago since I dropped by too.

Interesting about the midi function. So., what, it acts like a filter / mid unit . the distortion? Sorry if misunderstood. Speed reading here via I've a bit if catching up to do :)

Needs a good drone! Haha - serious :) !!

That's cool man. Such a beautiful crunch from the FB. Did you have it running a % wet Tom, or was it set up, sending stuff to an aux or something?

This is may be the wrong thread to ask this but would you benefit from an Iotine Core if you have a single Sherman unit already? Seriously considering to sell my Octatrack for that piece. I need more distortion!

if you do get that, by all means, let us know what it's like,
I was once planning on getting one of those.
but to be fair, I just suck at making distorted techno,
melodic techno/house is where it's at for me,
and you can try and force yourself all you want, but knowing what you're good at and for what you suck,
is just another way of moving forward, no ?

Will do mate. I just want to make the right decision. I do love the Sherman but I don't really use it much for that type of "All-in" distortion (no offense Mslwte I do love and find your sound very inspirational hehe). But so far the Sherman has become more of a shaping tool for percussions using the filters with lower gain other than using it on kicks and low end stuff.

I suck at distorted techno too. But I want to explore that world a bit more. It is a bit forced and maybe overkill at my stage but I need new ways to make my music, subjectively, and this could perhaps be the right tool for me. Octatrack is just collecting dust since a few months back now since I started to sequence and process my recordings ITB more. This could be a good "trade" I think.

man I wished for years I could make Birmingham techno.
Really.
And I guess I could just analyze all the stuff, and then keep on trying,
but you know, why not first build further on what I'm good at,
and then, when I'm more than good enough in that genre, and it gets a pure comfort zone and I get bored,
then I can still start to try making other stuff.
