Make this kind of ambient loop

Post by Tony »

Hello everyone,

Since couple of days i'm looking for make this kind of ambiance : http://www38.zippyshare.com/v/pDcHBL7R/file.html

I try with some vocals, lot of reverb & compression and a little of monomaker. But I can not do something similar.

Do you guys have any tips for make it sounds good ? :)

Thanks :)

I cant tell if theres also some slight distortion being used to get that texture along with the reverb.
I gave it a shot, and I could get the side chainey reverby sound in but couldnt get the same feel/texture in it, would also like to know how its achieved.

I think this sound could be made a few different ways though, but I ain't skilled enough yet to decipher it.

Hey Tony.. Everytime I click on that site.. zippyshare, lots of new links start opening up. I wont listen to anything on it & I'm sure other people are the same. Its impossible to listen to anything on it.

Ah sorry. I will upload a private link on soundcloud.

For stop the pop-ups and other shit like like that, you should use "Adblock Plus" it's an addon for your internet browser who block advertising.

Here is a soundcloud link : https://soundcloud.com/tony-foks/loop-7-c/s-YKYP0

If you're an Ableton user try running noise through the resonator to get the basic sound (try a few presets or make a chord from the resonators yourself). Then add modulation on top.

I'd like to 2nd ICN's remark : please give us a SC link instead of these shabby upload sites where pop-ups are more rapid than in a bag of corn put shoved into your microwave.

anyway, all I hear is some highly thinned out sidechained sound.
I would guess it's a 2 note chord or a sound with 2 detuned oscillators, or maybe just an octave, but honestly, if you want that type of sound it's pretty easy to get there.
Use a HP filter or BP, and even use quite a lot of EQ to take out LOTS of harmonic content.
This sound is as thin as an anorexic patient who's had 2 cucumbers to eat since last fall.
That and the obvious side-chaining (most likely by the kick) going on.
The source could be pretty much anything.
Just thin it out enough and you'll get more than close enough.
I don't really hear any obvious FX that colour this too much?

oh yeah, and I could be wrong, but I suspect it has mid/side EQ put on as well.

it's cause I try to ignore your chain, ;)
that and the fact that you have a semi-glamshot pic of yourself as an avatar (no offence)

Sounds like some sound run through a long reverb (maybe frozen) and heavily side-chained.

Agree with what people are saying here.

You could definitely make a 'similar' sound in function with pretty much anything. Reverb & sidechain are what I hear too.. but experimenting with graindelays.. frozen shit.. bounced fx.. anything is possible.

This.

Try play around with different reverb settings on 100% wet over some audio that has similar tones in it.

I used Operator with a low pass filtered triangle wave, piled a Grain Delay (all wet), Amp and a little Redux on top of it. And I EQ'd it a lot to get that sound "thin" (I think someone mentioned that before). The result I had when using Devastor instead of Redux was better in my opinion, but I wanted to try it with Abletons own Synth and Effects.

Hope I could help a little!

Damn, I should have made screenshots :)

yep.

seriously,
maybe OP you just needs to run the clip he wanted to copy through an EQ spectrum to see which frequencies he needs for this thinned out clip,
then take any kind of audio clip, run it through an EQ with the settings he learned from the previous clip and my guess is he'll be mostly done with it...
