External hard drives
Hey!
A rather technical question: so i wanna buy an external hard drive and put all my music software on there and then use the music software that's ont the external harddrive using my macbook pro, is this possible?

Yes possible but pain in the ass - always needs to be connected, if it's not or you want to use ur laptop somewhere but don't have the harddrive you can't. I have two machines synced (just data) by dropbox but when I don't put something in the shared folder and I need it it's a real pain.
WHy not put all you music, audio, data on the external and all the software on the macbook?

So do you want to use an external hard drive as a bootable OS specfically for music software ?

I would reccommend doing the following.
Buy a SSD hard drive.
Remove your current HD.
Replace it with a SSD.
Remove disk drive (assuming you don't use it all that much)
Replace with HD.
Install your OS onto the SSD.
Best of both worlds.

I have a ssd 256gb in an external usb case with win 8.1ableton installed and is bootable. So most laptops I change a bios setting and i can boot straight into my own ableton and music collection.

Replace HD and Cd with SSD drives.. Dont go external
Did it with my 5 year old macbook pro, macbook is flying now
