Your Favourite Sounds

Post by Críoch »

What are your favourite sounds? Be it a preset or the result of an effect or even possibly a 'found sound' kinda thing..

Here are a few of mine..

1.TR707 Cowbell. Just perfect haha
2. DX21 - 5th String. Lovely sound, especially in the lower octaves. Really like all the string type patches on the DX21. Some great sounds overall on it.
3. Hi Hats, Claps or Rides, fried with low end through rough distortion / compression.

Couldnt find an example of the DX21 5th String online so I uploaded this. Gives a slight idea. Its probably in loads of DX synths.

I was always partial to the noise-based snare sound I get from my Atari ST

The squealing sound at the start of a tape being loaded on a zx spectrum!
Music wise, well programmed bongos are a treat to my ears.
Also, piano... love the melancholy of a piano.
Hard for me to me specific with electronic based sounds but I guess the 909 ride still has an impact on me ..

The sound of a gloved fist punching through the glass of my back door after forgetting the key (again) - having crawled back from the Gin House. The way the shards tinkle on impact w/ the floor.

A child crying in the night.

The crushing silence of my wife ignoring me. Bliss.

You have to systematically create confusion, it sets creativity free. Everything that is contradictory creates life.

Also, a vocal which has processed enough to make as expressive sonically as the synth accompanying it:

Teasing 5000hz-ish harshness, itching and hurting my ears and loving it.

Also 909 rides, its an addiction I've been trying to shake of for years though.

quite specific but I love the sound when you distort a harmonically rich sound, and then pick out the harmonics with filtering, so a single note turns in to wonderful chords that ring out and go through you.
