Best techno reverb VST for the kick?

Post by jibberish »

Any suggestions for the best VST for creating the reverb on the kick in a fairly banging techno track?

Short answer, any reverb with enough controls will do the job i guess.

Where is the reverb going? Insert? Send? Is it there to add dimension to the kick, or are you using it for reverb rumble?

I find Valhalla Vintage Verb and Vahalla Room to be very good , otherwise if you're strictly looking for space, just look for a nice convolution reverb and a decent amount of tweakability available , as Mono just mentioned.

Any reverb. The Ableton one is fine. If you're in the market to buy a reverb anyway, just get any decent one, I use Valhalla Room and VVV.

Maybe we should have a reverb bass sub forum?

toraverb is the best plate reverb to me

Nice one guys....I'll have a look at Valhalla and D16. I love D16 Devastor and Valhalla Shimmer so these both sound like good suggestions.

Yes - the Ableton reverb is good and is probably good enough but sometimes it's nice to see what else is out there.

I'm planning on using this as an insert effect to get a 100% wet reverb off the kick which I'll record in a second channel and then play on the off beat of the kick

Ableton reverb is great due to the internal eq, easy to make instant rumble,

Beyond that all you need is lexicon. Best verbs out there.

I use the lexicons too. You don't need this expensive ones but I just prefer the lexicon ones. Whatever daw your working with the standard reverb will do just fine. When I do that it's just a matter of tryinging different things out and then suddenly you got the right sound. Remeber to eq it and put the really lows in mono.

I'm not professional or anything but I seem to get fairly good results with plain FL Studio's basic reverb and using EQ after that. Let's say you want it on a kick, you can make a copy of the kick sample then drive that copy through 100% wet reverb and place EQ after it. Then you can just cut the high freqs and boost the lower ones. It should produce some kind of low humming that gives kind of "techno" feeling to the kick. Dunno :D

I reccomend also using siedechain on the reverb send. On this kind of sound I always use the lfo tool because that way you can really control it and make it really groovy like boom dum boom dum boom dum

I guess you could also make a "fake reverb" by recording/programming some white noise with longish tail EQ'd again boosting low and cutting high and placing it under the kicks, then sidechain that or whatever. Or maybe use reverb on that one too! There are many ways I think.

Unless bouncing to audio after I wouldn't use Toraverb. It's ridiculous on CPU the worsrt of any D16 effect.

Depends on how you want it to sound. Personally I use valhalla vintage verb for reverb, it covers a lot of ground and sounds great.

I've got some interesting 'verbs from the toneboosters one. Metallic, strange sounds. Probably mentioned already but the 'ambience' plugin (??).. There's a mac au version with no presents, just sliders.. Which is cool to tweak away on. Erm.. But usually end up on the stock Ableton one. Shouldn't really cos it definitely us not as characterful as the others. Not worse , just different.

Really like the Valhalla room one also. Wish it had a filter for the lows too. I'm lazy.

Comes with a number of my presets for kicks... Lazy go to thing. Still works, and what i love about it is the variation button. That one can create interesting room tonality while keeping the other settings as are.

I actually began programming the presets in AU but gave up after a while. Life us too short. Some amazing sounds in there for sure. Very textural. Love the gate.
