New members say hello...
Re: New members say hello...
hah !
the only Spanish I know is from doing the Camino 4 times, and once spending 2 insane weeks travelling around Cuba.
I can assure it's not easy surviving in Cuba if you don't speak Spanish.
we'd go up to people and say insane absurd shit like "estamos buscandos ciboija" (obviously this is probably written differently).
which means if I remember correctly : we are looking for onions.
always an interesting conversation opener, that one...

hah, well done! just a minor tweaking here and there and you got it right (Estamos buscando cebollas)
I can imagine it was not easy, of all the Spanish countries, you had to choose the one with the (probably) lowest number of English speakers.
Fun fact... I was just peeling an onion... #housemaid

but we never took a hotel, just stayed with local people who rented out rooms,
I suspect if you stay in the hotels they all speak some English,
but then you NEVER get to see Cuba like it really is.
Educational system and heatlh system are superb, but the people don't have anything.
Totally different version of communism than what I saw as a kid in some Eastern European countries.
Every evening we could choose only 1 out 4 options for dinner: langoustine, chicken, fish fillet or (forgot the 4th option).
All the good food went straight to the hotels for the tourists, even finding a decently sized clove of garlic on a local market proved impossible.
I really hope for the Cubans things will change in the future, but I suspect it's gonna need at least another 20 years with all the corruption and shit.

really liked teller and especially bellows, but both could do with a better mix, gets way too muddy at times which is a shame cause the focus then only stays on the main sounds and you can barely hear some of the great little stuff going on here and there.oscil1label wrote:https://soundcloud.com/oscil1

I'm actually from West-Flanders, like 90% of the city . But I live in Ghent for almost 20 years now, I can't even speak the West-Flanders dialect anymore, I sound through and through like a real "Gentenaar". I'm also married to one.Subconcious wrote: Also from Ghent I see

enige plek in Vlaanderen waar de natuurlijke arrogantie ook zo hard in de genen zit en ze zich dus ook direct thuis voelen.*
*I am of 50% Antwerp blood, hence my natural arrogance, thank god it gets wonderfully countered by West-Flemish "humble pesantness"
