Has anyone tried out splice.com? Seems like an interesting way to share projects, both for collaboration and for learning. Most of the public projects on there right now are for EDM stuff, but I could see this being a great resource if it gets bigger. Of course, if any of the subsekt techno superstars wanted to share a project, that would be awesome  .

I'd like to try it out. I'm not a subsekt superstar, but if anyone is interested let me know.

I've tried once with a friend of mine (both using Live 9), somehow I had problems uploading my parts. Haven't checked it after that.

Any chance you could explain what it is?

I think I saw this a few years back (it was called splicemusic then I think) where they had a DAW done in flash and you could upload loops and search their shared cloud of loops and get all the artist info along with it etc. I didn't bother much because the flash DAW sucked. I decided to wait until it appeared as a vst or some kind of drag-n-drop within my own DAW. Is that what this is?

No its a platform for sharing projects and collaborating on projects in different DAWs. For example you can upload an Ableton live set and then invite people to collaborate. They download the set and make changes and the site keeps track of everything including versions. Of course you don't need a site to do this but it does make it easier.

Splice! That's what it is called. I'm on this but I've never used it. I meant to talk to john about it but never got around to it.

Any good? Does it work?

I think your collaborator has to have the plugin so in Ableton for example you would still have to freeze the track.

It seems to work pretty well from a quick test. It's not revolutionary or anything but I think it would make collaborating easier. It would also be a cool way for people to share a quick project publicly to demonstrate how they do certain things.

I joined this recently but not really looked at it yet, there is also blend.io which I have messed around with and seems to be pretty much the same kinda thing :)

Yep exactly, I actually worked for another music social network startup for awhile called Skio: https://skiomusic.com/

Their big thing is sharing stems so you can go from DAW to DAW without much effort.

But Blend and Splice were first to market and are already gaining strategic partnerships.

Splice has a bunch of free plugins now: https://splice.com/plugins/free_plugins

Blend teamed up with Coursera to offer a free Ableton Live MOOC: https://www.coursera.org/course/abletonlive
(This course is happening right now for a few more weeks! Get in on it!)

So not sure about Skio's chances but I'm still hoping they can get market traction too!
