What are your opinions on the new Roland AIRA line?

Post by nomadjames »

I have been seeing more and more of them showing up in videos and performances. They're cheap...Never actually seen one in real life.

Thoughts?

Havent got to try one yet but if Paul Birken rates it, it must have something going for it.

I have never used any of the Aria line but I do know that they gave away lots of product to known artists.
This seems pretty common with the bigger companies when they put out low price gear these days.
From what I can tell they gift the kit to people in return for a little paragraph endorsing the kit they can use in advertising, and/or a getting whoever it is to post a picture or video on twitter, instagram, youtube, facebook etc. sometimes even getting people to tweet that they want whatever it is and then tweet again when they get it saying how happy they are with it. This is all done informally, with no contracts etc. for various reasons.
It all depends on how much the producer is prepared to sell their soul for some free kit and the chance of eventually getting to the point where they are a paid official endorsee.

Get thousands of followers on facebook and twitter etc. and it is literally that simple. The quality of music you make doesn't matter

The vocal processor seems the most interesting, for me anyway.

Digging my TR-8! Even more so when the new kits (at least 707, hopefully 606 and CR-78 too) arrive, to make it more versatile.

Hmmm this thing becomes interesting! Is it a free extension?
If I go to hardware, I'll probably get one of those. But the light looks horrible.

it took them a lot of hard work and effort to sample a 707 and 727 and put together a pack

not cheap, but i like this idea of add new kits to your drum machine as you like, i can see a future where youre gonna have lots of kits to choose, then you can hava a really nice and customized set of sounds

im just thinking that would be cool if they come if some "new sounds" in the future, so you can mix the classics sounds with some new stuff

and i still hate the lack of copy A to B function :P
WTF?!

They are pretty good and cheap, don't own any originals so not really any benchmark, The tb-3 brings a different sound to the table it's not a classic 303 sound. The Tr8 functions well, its quite a bright sound but seems to respond well to processing. I think they are a good deal for the price.

I think that the expansions are a great idea. I'm interested in it because of that. I'd like to see some brand new sounds/kits created as well, that would be cool.

The price of the expansion is lame though.

75 euro? That's real steel considering the cost of the unit.
