Has saturation reached saturation point?

Post by jordanneke »

I love me a bit of distortion, but is techno in danger of becoming a caricature like gabba became?

These tracks are weapons (potentially), but do many people dig them? Does anyone dance to 'em?

Like every sub genre people with get bored of it soon enough and move on to something else. A little surprised to see it on mixmag but they do like a bandwagon and EDM is about to implode.

If you can speak of techno trends, I think in 2013 was all about this kind of music after MPIA3's release on Avian. 2014 is more about deepth I guess.

Maybe those are just my personal techno trends.

It all depends on the area of techno your in. I like to thikn that I'm right at the front row, but i guess we all think we are.

Anyway I think the Avian guys made it popular amongst the early adopters, and now this distorted music is being fucked up as musicians now think they can distort everything and al of a sudden it sounds good.

Your right, its sort of hitting the clubs now, but where avian was setting an example in 2013 other artist are setting an example in 2014.

It's like every techno micro genre I reckon mono, some of its great, lots of it aint! Most people's aspiration or way they describe themselves doesn't go beyond "sounds a bit like such and such". That's why theres so many distorted beats about, kick bass stab hat dubs, oh and ravey breakbeats and stabs are in it's a little bit like being in the early / mid nineties again. As with all of this there's plenty of killer and filler. God bless 20 year cycles.

I think techno is a big enough genre in itself to accommodate this kind of thing. Others who aren't into it have more than enough to keep themselves occupied. I don't like this style myself, but I do like distortion when it's done well. I've much preferred AnD's more toned down approach on the 170 releases they did for Samurai and Auxiliary.

You guys are right, but i'm always soooo dissapointed when a DJ drops this crap during a great set while i'm dancing. I'm like "Fuuuuck Nooooo" and off the floor. Same thing everytime someone drops Mill's "The Bells". Once a good track, but i was forced to listen to this track so many times, now i hate it !!! Fuck all of dem Mills fanboys. I#m fucken pissed now....
