yes exactly.

we're 2014, and Void was

1. having a go at you,

while

2. also making a point that it doesn't matter one little fuck what you (or anyone else for that matter) are and who or when you do it with

it's ok if you do it with your pet rabbit and a cucumber,
we won't mind.

now I feel old and tired and sick of explaining words and humour to young folks.
I'm off to bed, FFS

and it goes both ways :D
agree with this.

sending an unsolicited demo is like trying to seduce a girl actually .
all this stuff about making connection, being original etc is like a game of seduction.
you have to find a way to interest them first and make a difference with the 1000 other guys who want the same like you.

and of course you still can release on a crappy netlabel if you want (like having an affair with an ugly girl)

Netlabels dont have to be crappy or ugly, they're often just cheap dates. Nothing wrong with that.

Or be the guy every girls wants AKA make topnotch music.

I believe in both theories, on the one hand you need to make tons and tons of music to get your thing going, by then your audience will have grown and you'll eventually get noticed by some labels.

On the other hand your can sell yourself, and if you do it correctly and your music is in place, you will be succesfull.

Though I'm quite new to music making, I've turned down a few labels already. I'm waiting for the one that feels right. And personally I think my music isnt good enough yet.

the horror, the horror !

Pedro,

your first biology lesson starts here,
and first of all we should make it clear,
that the species known as male,
have these little white things with little white tails,
which multiply, and start to shout :
"it's getting crowded down here, let us out !"
once released, they start again,
it's not a process controlled by the brain !*

I just figured you need this kind of release more than another digital or vinyl release.
that was what I was on about yesterday, you idiot ! ;)

yes it works too (and better) for the "topnotch guy"

what i can say from my analysis is releasing tracks by yourself is better than waiting for an answer of a good label.

i started a new project earlier this year and had great comments and plays by established artists i like, and something like 1500 downloads. and had something like 7-8 solicitations from labels.
this way you can build a good connection related to your music, instead of trying to be cool with elaborate e-mail strategies.

if i had only sent demos i wouldn't have a good feedback (meaning getting a release) and those tracks would have stay on my hard drive..
doing it by myself i have a far better feedback, and it keeps me to focus on a method and coherence.

if you've got the money and your lazy enough, you could cut through all the ritual courting and simply pay a slutty whore of a label that still looks good enough to suit your tastes. this give you the experience. thus when "the one" comes along, you have the confidence of having been around the block already. and if it never does, well then at least you still got a shag.
