promotion is the kink in that and why one would want on a label.

DIY is fine, but promotion, artwork, mastering is a bitch. And you aren`t part of anything.
What I like about labels is being part of something, in relation to the ethics, the artistic vision, the other artists etc.
Strength in numbers.

yes but it's still better than releasing nothing at all, and you can pay for the mastering and artwork if you want.

this way you can build something, for your own progression i think it's good.
sure it's harder than being on a good label but if the music worth a release it would be a shame to keep it on a hard drive.

Ah now this is why I try to keep the releasing of my own material off of my label, or down to a minimum at least.
It is hard to make any kind of evaluation of it, there is no objective third party, no other filter.
Self releasing if fraught with it`s own problem of plaguing your "history" with potential guff.

i'm sure there are a lot of good tracks that nobody heard because the guy just send demos and had no answers.
as i'm pretty sure a lot of people give up because of this.

If your music is good, then people will take it.
Everyone who is releasing that is popular today, or legendary, has been through the same process.
I`m not saying don`t self release. But if you just give up because a few labels reject you or don`t reply, you are in the wrong business.

i'm 50% agree.

for the music, people that only listen 15 seconds of a demo must miss good tracks, and some famous guys just created their structure like they did in detroit, but there are many examples.
would they be famous today if they didn't created their own label to release themselves? maybe they just would have quit after sending few demos and be back to a regular job.

I can`t think of many, most of the people who have come up and blown up over say, the last 2 years have done so on labels they do not own.

Getting turned down is part of the game, had some demos rejected a few weeks ago on a label I thought I was a sure shot for...

Yeah, getting rejected isn't cool but what can you do. Life goes on. There are more important things in life than a release on ..

Same here, you take the knocks and you carry on, you can`t expect everyone to have the same taste as you, sometimes it`s just the wrong music for the label, sometimes it`s taste, sometimes it`s cos you made some duds.

cause otherwise our quota of black members isn't reached.
jordanneke isn't around enough either.
this can't be a cockfest and a white's only cockfest as well

we need colour in our man train damn it !
