Re: Just tested Eventide Blackhole VST Reverb
so after this mini shock,I bought Soundtoys Bundle the other day and so I got my self an Ilok 2 !
but since I have an Ilok lets try those Eventides that I always wanted I said to my self...
Blackhole is definitely one of the best Reverbs in the vst world and I am pretty sure its one of the best reverbs among hardware reverbs too!
my beloved Valhalla Shimmer sounded good next to Blackhole but for sure NOT better !!!
you can't believe how smooth it is even when you push it so hard and you send brutal information to it....I am going to test H3000 now and I hope I have another shock !!!

H3000 didn't shock me like Blackhole but it delivers ! now let me check my bank account $$$
Re: Just tested Eventide Blackhole VST Reverb
this is the moment when I look to my right and stare at my H8000fw for a while and have a stupid grin on my face.
I'm very happy with my soundtoys plugins though, extremely easy, extremely creative, and lots of fun.

Lucky you! I've considered an Eclipse a few times but I can't really justify it.Hades wrote:this is the moment when I look to my right and stare at my H8000fw.

The H3000 vst is fucking awesome. Shitty shitty interface though.

ow I'm the first to say my gear far outwages my skills, approx. by a ratio of 10 to 1...terryfalafel wrote:Lucky you! I've considered an Eclipse a few times but I can't really justify it.Hades wrote:this is the moment when I look to my right and stare at my H8000fw.
but I've also come to the conclusion that there is nothing in my life that makes me happier than good quality audio gear (apart from my kids and family of course),
so I decided I could indulge in expensive gear once every few years.
And I absolutely do use this gear tons of times, even if I'm not some kind of established artist with x amount of releases to "justify" my extensive studio.
so why couldn't you justify an eclipse ? those are still more than affordable.
I'm 35 now, and I've never bought a tv in my life, and I've never bought a car in my life.
I always got around with the cars/tv's others didn't want anymore.
I can assure you one saves a lot of money that way.

I can't justify any expensive rack FX unit, no matter what they sound. If they have tons of programming options, they aren't easy and fun to use. I'd much rather buy FX units in a pedal/tabletop format, even if it means the algorhithms aren't high end. Knobby interface is great for FX, it takes like a minute at most to make something I like on my Strymon Big Sky.terryfalafel wrote:Lucky you! except you get a dual engine, with all their FX pedals combined into one big massive engine, using all kinds of combinations of these pedals, and you got 2 units of these.Barfunkel wrote:I can't justify any expensive rack FX unit, no matter what they sound. It comes with 1500+ presets, there is no way you can run out of options, unless you're an uncreative idiot.
I totally agree pedals are far more fun, but this unit gives you so much more options,
and once you get to learn it, you won't be losing that much time when you want to control it.
Mapping some MIDI controller to your most used parameters doesn't take that much time if you want to.
but if you totally hate menu-diving, then sure, get the pedals, lord knows you'll save tons of cash.

Well, not really, when you're buying stuff like Strymon, Moog or Eventide. Several different specialist pedals easily gets into the high end Eventide range.Hades wrote: but if you totally hate menu-diving, then sure, get the pedals, lord knows you'll save tons of cash.
I'm a workflow nut, to me a fast and fun flow is the most important thing. Professionals might be more concerned about
pure sound quality, but as just a mere hobbyist, as long as whatever unit I'm buying sounds decent enough, I'll always flavour the ones that are fun to use.

Soon as I have my mixer, I'm definitely going for pedals.
Eventide Space (Civil Civic ), POG octaver, 45000 delay.

Fair play man. But it was not a challenge to justify your ownership of some expensive bit of kitHades wrote:ow I'm the first to say my gear far outwages my skills, approx. by a ratio of 10 to 1...terryfalafel wrote:Lucky you! I'm much the same as you. I don't buy a lot of the superfluous shit that a lot of people spend their money on so spending 1k or 2k on a box that is really worth it to me is an option. I agree 100% that having good quality tools for any job makes the process just as enjoyable as the end result. Often more so actually.
For me though, a hardware fx box like an Eventide is some time way behind an Antelope Audio Orion interface, a huge stack of classic vinyl winking at me from Discogs and about 6 unfinished DIY studio projects. Until they're all done I'll drool from a respectable distance

They would seldomly say it directly, but it would be perfectly clear what they mean...
Anyway, I only started buying vinyl again once most of my studio was finished.
I still haven't bought a DJ mixer again (and borrowed my last mixer years ago to some teenager who never returned it). Would love to, but it doesn't look like it will be any time soon.
And yeah, I had a good soundcard and good monitors before I got the Eventide, that's for sure.
A big disadvantage of getting such high priced stuff is that you gotta be prepared to get it replaced if it breaks down.
If one of my HW synths would break down, I'd just use some other ones. (Apart from my Andromeda which I'd miss immediately, and my Xpander which is just a pain in the ass high-maintenance bitch but ow so sweet when it works.) But if for example my soundcard would break down, or one of my monitors. I'd need to be prepared to replace it in a rather short time-span or I'd get a nervous break-down from not being able to make music anymore...
So I started building an emergency fund after I bought my new laptop in january. I'm putting aside something every month for if something really shitty happens. It was just necessary.
I mean, all my expensive gear is very well protected electricity-wise, but still things can always break down.

Re: Just tested Eventide Blackhole VST Reverb
I LOVE Eventide products. I have the Space, Timefactor and H9 pedals. I still want to get Blackhole (even though it's a small portion of the Space) for the ease of use inside the DAW.
I, of course, used the old school Harmonizers in studios as well and those are classics.
Eventide makes amazing stuff. But, I will admit, I was also unimpressed with all of their other plugins. Hopefully they step up their software game and we get lots of more goodies from them!
I highly recommend their pedals if anyone wants some excellent hardware FX. The Eventide sound is the high-end in sound design for a reason!
Also, I'm in a room full of gear... and always will be. Of course, I'm a sample library sound designer, so I have an excuse!
(P.S. - I'm new here... liking this forum... it's about time there was a true Techno production site!)
