Anyone have any invites for it? I'll take one if you do!

But besides that, what do you guys think about this site? It seems to be gaining a lot of traction amongst creatives as the new social media platform of choice for artists. I can't imagine they'll be able to conquer Facebook, but it definitely seems to be enticing a lot of people to look at new options.

G+ tried to kill Facebook but failed miserably even though it seemed like a decent implementation.

I personally think Ello is ugly as hell – I hate the typeface they use and it just looks too minimalist, but I haven't used it yet so who knows. Maybe there's more to explore once you're a member.

Never heard of it until I read this post but I really like the idea. I dropped my facebook account last year because the ads were really starting to get on my tits plus my so called facebook friends informing when they liked yorkshire tea or enjoyed installing a loft ladder from B+Q (for all your home and garden supplies).

I know my company checks the facebook pages of potential employees so I imagine this is common practice.

An artist driven social media sounds fantastic. If anyone has an invite please drop me a message.

As for facebook ive unfollowed almost every useless connection. I almost have a fully techno containing newsfeed.

Don't know what to makes of it yet, yes lots of creatives on there atm. I like the minimalist design, but thats just design it all depends on what kind of community develops, too early to tell so far. All I know is I'm sick of FB so anything would be better...

Besides lack of ads, what's the advantage of this over Facebook?

I like my FB. Everybody I know . 2 people uses it, so it's extremely handy for communicating with friends, exchanging links, receiving invites for events so I don't have to scan every single bar and club website of the city all the time. To be honest, I'd rather get rid of my phone than Facebook. Besides job-related stuff I've hardly used my phone since I joined FB.

Ello couldnt of come at a better time for me. I'm feed up to the back teeth with Facebook and I've been using it much less lately. It doesn't work very well on my phone either. I've actually even considered deleting my account and either starting again or not bothering with it anymore.

I'm interested to see if ello will work. I've applied for invites but haven't received them yet so if anyone has a spare I'll take it.

My month off facebook has been great. Not missing it at all (with the exception of event reminders, which I tend to forget lol). The superficiality is fucking grating.

I've got a ello account, i havent done anything with it yet, or formed much of an opinion.... But if Mslwte or anyone else wants an invite sent me your email address by pm, and ill send it through.

Same. I've been using FB for about two months. Can't say I like it very much but I don't think I'm going to go and sign up for anything else for a long while. Everyone I know seems to be on FB except my two closest friends, And I've got their phone numbers so job done.

Ello seems - and this is just me I expect - a wee bit Hipster-ish. Sure it won't be when it gets going, but most of the people I see talking about it just now seem sort of too-cool-for-school.

yeah it has a certain hipster vibe to it. when it comes to alternative social networks i think Diaspora is much more interesting cuz you can set up your own server (and even disconnect it from the rest of the network if you want) and its all open source and user-owned
