Best option.
The carnage is a horrific crush of people, I'd hate to be there with a kid, it would be panic central.
Re: Carnival
I hear stories every year but never realised it was such a mess worth dodging. A shame really. You would think "family day out" ..

Re: Carniva
Ah it used to be ok. I used to go every year, in 98 and 99 I was on a sound system float, and it was getting too much then. These days it's crazy.
There are more people every year and the little streets of notting hill just can't cope with the numbers and it makes it nigh on impossible to police effectively. Anything happens and the cops just can't get there in any reasonable time.
Monday is traditionally "family day" and it is a little better.
Every year there are stabbings, beatings, crushes, loads of pick pocketing.
That's why we call it notting hill carnage.
They keep tryng to move it somewhere that can cope, like the streets around Hyde park and going through Hyde park, where there is plenty of space and policing can be organised.
But the organisers get shitty about keeping the 50 year tradition, so every year it ends up rammed into notting hill.
Savvy Londoners stay well away from it.
The same thing is happening with Chinese New Year here. It used to be just a small thing on Gerard st and around Chinatown, mostly with the chinese community and some Londoners. But there was a big investment drive by the last mayor to expand it, to big up relations with china. So now there are show stages and stuff. And now it has become his massive thing, loads of tourists know about it now as it is in tour guides, so it has become this crazy crush, again packed in to streets that can't cope.
