did the drug dealing thing too. in my case though, that was my very first entrepreneurial venture. i was 17 years old too. started off just so's i could get my weekend pills. next thing i know i got a whole bank bag full of shit for the weekend. never got caught though. despite my house being raided twice by police and sniffer dogs. i soon realized the futility of doing anything "under the table" and that statistically you are simply bound to get caught. nice story though. father showing up in a convoy of mercedes. fantastic. my father used to show up in an old 80's nissan hatchback model that backfired as loud as a shotgun. had everyone ducking. fucking embarrassing.

I guess it's not so strange you guys never heard of him, he wasn't that high profile in most techno scenes. I used to play a lot of Berkovi and Rush in my sets and Ibrahim's tracks had the funk of Rush and the audacity of Berkovi so they all fit right in. I miss some of that super tracky techno mixed with a lot of wonk.

I had one record by him but I can't remember what it was & don't seem to have it now. Really liked all that berkovi predictiments stuff. Still have a few of those left. The ibrahim or Alfa electronics stuff was nice

" It's another of those massive clichés that are actually true: that if you've been to public school, going to prison is not a massive jump"

yes, only in prison you're more likely to get assaulted, raped and murdered. what an absolute pile of crap. it's NOT okay to go to prison. not least because you're marked as an ex-convict for the rest of your life making simple things like earning a living far more difficult. you're also more likely to end back up in prison for the same reasons and more. if that's his opinion on prison he must either 1) be an extremely hard cunt i would not like to involve myself with or 2) be thick as pigshit. now if he actually wrote the responses to those questions himself, i say we're dealing with someone quite intelligent here and thus both extremely reckless and dangerous individual. the fact that he's got a kid and did these things further supports this. i've made it a central pillar of my life to stay away from people like that and that is how i've stayed clean and out of trouble. i really try to delay being judgmental for as long as i possibly can but there comes a point where you must evaluate the character of people both for the safety of yourself and for those around you. my record is clean and i really want to keep it that way.

Sounds like someone has watched a few too many shows about prison.

I know a few ex cons, all are successful. Could they have been more or less successful than they are now? Who knows.

Think he's Birmingham based as he appears to work at / run Veto. He's replied to some stuff I've bought from Veto on Discogs.

He still plays.. or at least played in AUM Birmingham there a year or 2 ago anyway.

funny. i met two ex-cons in in south africa. one guy was at his old ways coming straight back out. the other guy looked so messed up over what had happened to him in prison (raped, bullied, assaulted) that all the experienced seemed to have provided for was an amplification of the mental state that landed him there to start with. i met a couple 'burger bar boys' -- north/mid england equivalent of crips or 187 or something -- on the street very recently and they treat prison as though it's some kind of respectable educational institution. i suppose it depends on your view. if you're thinking of becoming a full time criminal then prison is an essential stop on the itinerary. the point i was trying to make was not that people who come out of prison should be black marked even though they are, it's that if someone is to be forgiven and redeemed to normal society then they should view prison as the place that corrected their behaviour and character and not enhanced it and made them "stronger". they are not now in someway better than someone who has NOT gone to prison. it's a slap in the face to people who do the shittiest jobs around. granted, i new one guy who got caught smuggling cocaine from south america into south africa. he got conned by the nigerians, he was 18 at the time. a very clever guy and had lots of money because he had brains. he got himself a computer science and business degree while he was "inside" but he still lost 5-10 years of his life in there and to top that he was raped; repeatedly. he had to pay people off to stop it. prison is not a "cool" place to go because it'll make you bigger and stronger.

edit : just did a quick lookup on 'burger bar boys' and i think the guy i spoke to was feeding me some nonsense. they don't look like a 187 or crips ie prison gangs. maybe he was just acquainted with one of them. but the point is he thought all that was respectable and these people are murderers. he also had a whole bunch of tats and i'm pretty sure he belonged to some prison gang and had some rank. he had dots on his hands that looked like rank markings. i saw another bloke with dots too but not as many. i think he/they were on a 'holiday' expecting to go back 'home' inside again soon.

Very interesting read, and some good points raised by Nicknack too. When I was a youngster quite a few of my mates got involved with the drug scene and tried to get me involved too (thinking they were doing me a favour) we are talking funny sociable party loving guys. I watched them slowly turn into hard faced fuckers. One of them came out absolute ruined after his first stint inside (aged 17) the other, well he is dead now, shot instead of his boss for being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

It's tough having to stay away from childhood friends just because you don't want to get mixed up in that crap.

Anyway, worth a read and good to hear he has come out the other side.
