What Monitors / Headphones do you use?
Re: What Monitors / Headphones do you use?
How about those Yamaha's?
Would you recommend those over the Adams? Got budget around 1000eu.
Thanks,

I didn't get to compare the two in person, but I would've taken the Adams over them, maybe if only for the ribbon tweeter and the fact there are more reviews available as there was nowhere close to me to audition them.Victor wrote:How about those Yamaha's?

Thanks,
The Yamaha's are great though, not like the other Yamahas with the forward midrange and recessed low end, very balanced in comparison.
Re: What Monitors / Headphones do you use?
I dont know much about the Yamaha's. I do have the a7x's so i can tell you about them. I feel that in my small room the sound is really nice and compact. What i mean is in not having to much resonance troubles like i've heard with the h8's for example. The tweater are not scrapingly high and just a delight, the mids are tight and sexy and the lows are big and accurate.Victor wrote:How about those Yamaha's?

Thanks,
I just love em. They improved my mixes alot imo.

Msp7's are solid, you'll be fine with em.Contort wrote:No I missed some auctions and got a good deal on some Yamaha MSP7's instead.Victor wrote:Update; can get a pair of A7Xs (in good order) for around 650.Contort wrote:I doubt you'll find A7X's second hand for €400. Best to get reading reviews and prices being sold for both.
Read a lot of reviews yet, already listened to A7Xs before, never got my hands on the H824s (MK1). Heard the MK2s had some issues..
You've got the Adams right?
My general impression was that the A7X's had something over the mackies.
Re: What Monitors / Headphones do you use?
I ended up getting a pair of Dynaudio BM6A mkII monitors and Audio Technica ATH-M50s fulfill perfectly my headphone needs.
Re: What Monitors / Headphones do you use?
Thanks all for replying. Went for a trip and wasn't able to post earlier. Will take a look at the Msp7's if I can manage to find some. Will test the A7X's soon. I'll update when I've made a decision.

Re: What Monitors / Headphones do you use?
Yeah it`s not an easy choice.
everyone likes to quote the rather misunderstood technicalities of Ribbon tweaters (which the adams have) that they are the best type of tweater, but the reality is that, as usual, there is a certain trade off.
Ribbon tweaters do have exceedingly good high frequency performance and accuracy, and transient response, but, only at high frequency. Ribbon tweaters don`t work so well at their lower frequency limits, in the mid range, and that accuracy is lost, whereas silk dome or the like loves the mids.
So I really wouldn`t recommend adams at the lower end of the price spectrum (2 way nearfields), as ribbon tweaters are more suited to 3 way systems, where a midrange driver can pick up and cover the weak areas of the ribbon tweaters.
Again it depends on taste, but the mid range is where the human ear is most directed, and most picky, and you really want to get your mid range right (which is why the mid-forward sound of the NS10 was a standard for...ever).
If you prefer to focus on high end detail then some Adams 2way nearfields might be for you, but if you really prefer to focus on mid range detail then something else is better.

Re: What Monitors / Headphones do you use?
Pair of Neumann KH120a here(got them second-hand) and German Maestro GMP8.35D. Enough lows for me on the monitors, and quite sturdy construction of both products, feels very german, hehe.
Re: What Monitors / Headphones do you use?
On the topic of monitors, any recommendations on quality monitor stands for Adam A7Xs in the $100-$150 range? Moving in to a new place and just don't have a big enough table to set them on comfortably. Couldn't find the link to the thread with the decoupling discussion etc, so I'll have to check that out later too.
Re: What Monitors / Headphones do you use?
Buy them second hand. And i thought the quiklok bs-300 fit perfectly but you'd have to doublecheck.
Re: What Monitors / Headphones do you use?
They do wobble a bit when you touch them. Then again im sure you'd stack them out of reach.

Thanks I'll check 'em outAlume wrote:Buy them second hand. And i thought the quiklok bs-300 fit perfectly but you'd have to doublecheck.

Re: What Monitors / Headphones do you use?
hello skim. I am thinking to upgrade my monitors set (budget max 900EUR for a pair). I would like to buy event, I am wondering about new active 2020s and 2030s. I would like to know if the 2020 sound good (i fear that the mids are muddy: too much bass and only a tweeter? and mids are very important to me because i feel like my mixdown lacks good midfreqs) so that is why i also consider 2030 which receive superb reviews and have midfreq 3inch speaker.
Those speakers will also serve me not only for production but also for listening music (vinyl and mp3). are you able to help me choose?

Re: What Monitors / Headphones do you use?
The problem with 3 ways for nearfield use can mean too much separation between the sound and problems at crossover frequencies. Whereas with a good 2way you get a more "complete at source" delivery.
I`ve heard engineers complain about the 2030`s breaking the sound up too much and getting confusing detail information at crossover points. But also guys who rat ethem very highly.
However nothing at that price point will give you "muddy" mids, apart from a shitty muddy mix.
Nearfields are pretty subjective to an extent as performance is similar, below the 1000 per pair price point there are compromises within all speakers, but the one thing you will get is pretty much a clear mid range across the board from all competitors at this price level, the real difference is on bass response, time response, handling of transients and the quality of crossovers.
The only way to make a decision is to try them out, either get some demo pair delivered or go to a decent listening room with an amount of trustworthy reference material.

Re: What Monitors / Headphones do you use?
Yes Event 2030 are way too cheap to be able to deliver a solid 3 way sound.
It's better to get a more expensive 2-way speaker rather then go with those I reckon.

Re: What Monitors / Headphones do you use?
I don't have any experience with 2030, but the 2020's are nice and I really don't think they are muddy in mids or anything. There's definitely not too much bass, even though from reviews I expected them to be quite bassy, but I have a pretty big space after all, and even think about getting a sub for that "big sound system" experience once in a while. Anyway, they are nice monitors, but I bought them blindly because I got a very good deal on them. I would strongly recommend you to go to the biggest pro audio store you can and just have a go on everything that interests you, because there's just so much to choose from these days in that price range, and there's no better way to decide than listening for yourself.
Re: What Monitors / Headphones do you use?
Anyone have any experience with PSI monitors? I've read good things about them and I've been thinking about getting the A17-M's at some point.

PSI have a solid reputation. I personally never heard them.
