Fuck the manual! Just mash the buttons till you sort it out. If you can't sort it out then you start a thread about it.... At which point we can tell you to RTMF! Stop taking the fun out of internets!
Yeah I was trying to make myself look good. The manual got me as far as plug USB lead in to power device.
Then it was discarded as I began bashing buttons. Already fucked 2 of them! (Man Hands)

I'll have a proper play from Friday to Sunday and will make notes, maybe even record some bits. So maybe have something complete by next week.
Re: Arturia Beatstep _ Hardware Step Sequencer for €99
I caved in and ordered one. Gotta keep up with the Borgs.

Hahaha, I would use me as the bench mark for anything other than having a load of gear/plug-ins and getting fuck all finished.Planar wrote:I caved in and ordered one. Gotta keep up with the Borgs.

Bah. I figured you were taking the piss but I wasn't 100% sure. There been other gear that hasn't been up to snuff thats been released in the past. Good for.... bastard.ashley BORG wrote:Nah I'm only joking you gullible cunt The pads seems pretty sweet so far, think there's a lot of fun to be had with this little unit.UN!T wrote:Really? that simply won't do sir Borganov !
I'm testing out that Doepfer sunday afternoon,
and I got a slight hunch the seller hardly used it and doesn't know very much about it.
So I expect a proper review of the Arturia step sequencer by saturday at midnight the latest...
(the guy should have quite a few vintage synths though, so nonetheless the visit might be fun... )

Ha. Fuck you Thomas!
I will give a first impressions, then maybe a more in depth follow up once I get more familiar with it.

I can't seem to sync mine to my mac... osx 10.9.6. There is a thread on their forum but their solution doesn't work for me.
It was a little bit smaller than I expected, but a nice size. Pads dont push down, but feel nice to the fingers, good sensitivity. Knobs click to notes, when changing 127 CCs you will have to twist a lot, so setting ranges might be in order. I found it surprisingly weighty, doesnt move around on my desk when I bash it.
Despite my sync issue, great fun to play with, and despite not syncing, I recorded a bunch of midi in time:

Cheers for the impressions, your audio sounds good. Mine was on my desk when I got in this morning, so I'm looking forward to giving it a try tonight.
Re: Arturia Beatstep _ Hardware Step Sequencer for €99
I've been playing for the last hour or so and I'm really impressed with the build quality for the price, it's weighty like you say and the pads seem nice. The encoders are a little slow, but that shouldn't be a problem for me personally. I'm fairly impressed overall.willemb wrote:It was a little bit smaller than I expected, but a nice size. I managed to get mine sync'ed up with Ableton after a bit of faffing (I've never needed to midi sync before). First I followed this setup guide:-willemb wrote:I can't seem to sync mine to my mac... osx 10.9.6. There is a thread on their forum but their solution doesn't work for me.

This sort of worked, but there was a hideous delay. So I pressed the triangle next to the MIDI "output" section for the beatstep (you can see it in the PDF) and that brings up a delay slider. I programmed in a straight 4 to the floor kick with the beatstep and then put the metronome on. I then started "beatmatching" with the delay slider until it seemed in time. I then recorded some midi and tweaked the delay time until I got it as tight as it will go.
Re: Arturia Beatstep _ Hardware Step Sequencer for €99
I use Logic rather than Live, but my Beatstep isn't communicating at all with the Arturia MidiControlCenter application (or being recognised by Mac's Audio Midi Setup application. However, it still works as a basic midi controller. First go at hitting play on the beatstep in time with the music worked fine for me, didnt have to adjust or quantise any midi.... when both Logic and the Beatstep were set to their standard tempo of 120bpm.
Re: Arturia Beatstep _ Hardware Step Sequencer for €99
I had that problem as well, I had to put it into firmware update mode. I held down stop & play and plugged it in then the midi app worked. I'm on PC though and I guess you tried that already going by your earlier post.

I have had a play with the environment window in a previous version of logic, so im just about aware of it, but have never used it in my current install of logic 9.UN!T wrote:Do you use the Environment window at all?willemb wrote:I use Logic rather than Live, but my Beatstep isn't communicating at all with the Arturia MidiControlCenter application (or being recognised by Mac's Audio Midi Setup application.
