Ashley, agreed on all the Tech Itch stuff. His stuff is what I love about dnb: it's that menacing, futuristic vibe. Nothing else like it.

I can imagine some of you arent big fans of his "Crack House" stuff but Zinc is a boss in my eyes.

Yeah man.. I was sitting through nearly an hour of a Zinc RinseFM podcast today, waiting for Paul Woolford / Special Request to come on. Fucking hit the dial back to the start just before it came on (I was driving).. so I put on Planar's DnB mix instead haha.

Crack House, is it? He played some good tunes.. but I was wondering what the fuck the others were tbh. Desperate in places. Guess some people can't keep banging it out forever & need a change. He has really changed. Some of it was really shit cheesy music. I wouldnt have DL'd it if it didn't have Paul Woolford on it, who I'm sure will be pretty all over the place, but demented. Hopefully.

Zinc had a very short shelf life for me. I liked casino royale, and 174 trek because of how different they were. Credit to him for having the skills. His dreamscape mix from the late 90s was a fave. But he lost his way pretty quick for me.
The whole true playaz thing bombed as far as I was concerned

With the aid of a few cups of coffee and my headphones, I have finally got to the end of this thread, some interesting stuff. I was really a bit meh about most D+B stuff but still used to keep my ears open. I think I am a fan of the D+B rhythms (especially when it's disjointed and funky) but some of the accompanying sound made me get bored really quick. I think we were spoilt during the 90's too much good music to buy.

Embarrassingly most of the D+B stuff I can remember is not by typical D+B guys.

Tracks that still nail it for me are.
AFX and squarepusher (move on to 2:50 ish mark if you have short attention span)

Red Snapper

also, whilst I'm at it one of my fave records from 1991 that was a bit ahead of it's time (IMHO) it survived my last vinyl cull.

This mix is excellent BTW, some really fantastic tracks here... none of which I have heard before.

i liked the dj zinc stuff that came out in the late 90's. it was something a bit different.

ive got an album of his from this era

youtu.be/MfmqmrFHJZg

i saw him earlier this year by complete chance. i was in nottingham on my stag do and we just ended up in this random club not knowing what the music policy was let alone who was playing. he was on in the main room banging out some nasty drum and bass. quality it was.

Yep, some of this is inspiring stuff, perhaps we should have a Subsekt D+B challenge.

I've got this on CD somewhere. I never really rated it much, but those 2 concord dawn tracks are great. Mixmag did a Decoder and Substance CD that was much better:

Can't embed it as it's a playlist and a few of the tracks have been taken down anyway. Takes a couple of tracks to get going.

yeah i had that cd as well. i never liked that "midnight track" but after the first few tracks it was a decent mix. a couple of my mates had it on repeat for a while.

I'll always liked Midnight. It got hammered by every DJ when it came out and it's kind of become embedded in my head.

Embrace it, Ashley. Throw the handbag on the floor and have a good dance round it to some cheesy vocal dnb.
