Drum machine
Hi guys, been looking out for a drum machine for a while now. Price should not be higher that €500. Want to use it to create and record loops whitch I edit in my DAW. Also, I want to use it for live sets, so it should have nice sounds of it's own... also the sounds should be tweakeble. effects on individual instruments would be nice, but I don''t know if it's doable for this price (or even at all...).
Another pre is easy to use (so no confusing menu, especially for live sets). This would be my first drumcomputer.
So far I've been looking to the following:
- Roland TR8 (a lot of internal sounds, thats close to the classics)
- Korg volca beats drumcomputer (as far as I can see the only possible way to record it would be through the headphone jack?)
- Korg Volca Kick analoge kick-generator (same as above)
- Roland TR-08 Rhythm Composer Boutique drumcomputer (I know, but still...)
- Roland TR-09 Rhythm Composer Boutique drumcomputer
- Arturia DrumBrute analoge drumsynthesizer
I would like some help to pick one, so please share your experiences.
If any of you guys have other suggestions, please let me know!
Tnx!!

Re: Drum machine
I have a Volca Kick, it's limited.
I would either go with the TR-8 or the Arturia. You should try them and see which one you jive with. I am just learning my way around a TR8 and its really versatile for performance. I do not have any exposure the Drumbrute, but have heard it kinda falls flat as far as sounds.

Re: Drum machine
Tried drumbrute at a mate's house. It sounded like shit. He sold it within a couple of months of buying it
Re: Drum machine
Tr8 + Jomox Mbase
Or you could find Machinedrum in this range (don't be put down by all of the tech housey/mnml demos, it can deliver)

Re: Drum machine
I just swapped my mfb522 and some money for a lxr recently. First results are pretty amazing and i think i just started to tweak this thing. A lot of possibilities and a very own technoish Charakter.Lost to the Void wrote:None of the above...

Re: Drum machine
TR8 and LXR then?
I’d personally get a Maschine MK3 and something like Wave Alchemy Revolution and Evolution, its kind of keeping it hardware and instantly gets it inside your computer, with a lot more possibilities then hardware, but I get it’s not what your after

Re: Drum machine
I second Maschine Mk3 as an option. The drum synths are cool and you can build all sorts of customised kits with them.
Re: Drum machine
I have a drumbrute, it' really great for performance related stuff, some people say it sounds bad, well it sounds different than 909 and the hihat is weird, but it has individual outs so you can process the shit out of sounds to make them your own.

Re: Drum machine
I think the Drumbrute sounds fine for what it is.
I think the hats are the only real meh, in that they lack a nice hard attack.
But it can sound fine.
I mean, analog drums meh, but I think it`s good for the money.

Re: Drum machine
Tnx for your replies guys!! Will look in to them.
Maschine MK3 doesn't look that appealing for live performance (at least not for what I have in mind), but will look in to it to!
I'll go to the store and try out the tr8 and drumbrute (all the outs are really apealing...)
Tnx!!

Re: Drum machine
I kinda missed the live performance element in your opening post, sorry! I wouldn't have been confidently recommending for that purpose (great sounds for production though)

Re: Drum machine
I love live jamming with my Maschine...I'm just trying to leave the computer at home, though! I spend all day staring at this fucking thing.THX_1138 wrote:I kinda missed the live performance element in your opening post, sorry! I love making techno on the Maschine, though...For me its way faster and more intuitive than anything else I have...I guess because I have been using it for like 6 years.

Re: Drum machine
From that list the only one that appeals to me is the drumbrute. The poly rhythms look cool. Something I'd like to play with. Plus it hands on and kinda instant.ZenoSupreme wrote:Hi guys, been looking out for a drum machine for a while now. Price should not be higher that €500. Nearly bought the kit myself. Just talked myself out of it because I think is close to the machinedrum and I obviously have one of those already. Looks cool though.Lost to the Void wrote:None of the above...
