in the intro the first few seconds the music sounds like it is stuttering dont know if you did this on purpose but it feels unnecessary
mayb too much sidechain compression
other than that perfect work, i think i need to stop producing cause i will never be this good
you should post this in the members section aswell dont be shy

funny, now that you said this, I checked and you're right about those first few seconds.
but you are talking about Oskar's improvement on the mix now, right ?

Also, Jordan was right, the woodblock snare needs to be a bit less harsh.
Never noticed that in my studio, but I can tell now.

I was just about to comment but it's gone!

I listened a few times and there was some weird percussion after the break. That's all I can remember

I think it's far better this way, but I still need to work on a few details.

opinions are welcome :

I listened to the two in A/B

Whilst the second one is better, it's too unnaturally wide sounding. Almost like a waves plugin has been slapped on the master. It loses a lot of punch being so wide.

I think you need to dial back progress until you get somewhere right in the middle of the 2 mixes. That'd be the sweet spot.

Ok.....

An actual clip this time. This sits squarely in between looped techno and house. Is there such a thing as looped house?

Oh yeah, it's quite 'maximal' for me. This is just a quick sketch so the arrangement is pretty terrible

Any positive/ negative thoughts? Can it be finished? I'm really interested in the negative points....after all thats the only way we get better right?

Damn some proper robert hoodish stuff here, listened to it only on my laptop speakers but I feel like the reverb could be less obvious

maybe Oskar can chime in and explain what he did exactly,
but I think he used a plugin from Ozone to widen stuff, and simply made things brighter in general.
I still need to get in the studio and check, my kids take up a little more time now that it's a school . :)

all right, now that I'm finished pimping the kids and I locked them back in my basement, I finally had some time to check on my monitors...

you are totally right about the widening being too much, it's immediately obvious when I hear it here in the studio.
I also think the mix is too bright now, not that much, but still a little bit, maybe like 20% less or so would be fine.

ok, gonna try and work a little bit on the panning, make the mix a little brighter,
and put some of Prophän's singing on top (a duet with his favorite goat) !!

damn that's some heavily pumped up sound.
Really really lovely groove.
I find it pretty hard to think of something to say about this.

Maybe the percussion hits (crash cymbal, kind of) could be a little better, they sound kind of thin now compared to the rest.
There's also some other percussion element in there that sounds very weak, like a little sound burst kind of thing.
I know you probably want it at the back a little, but I still think it could be a little louder and your groove would still be fine.

Maybe turn the sub a little down as well ?
And put some filter modulation on the chord stab ?

EXCELLENT stuff man !!!
I think it's about the best thing I heard from you, ever.

You sir, have far too much groove inside of you.
That shit ain't healthy no more... 8-)

I just checked that little detail and compared with my mix.
It's Oskar who did this, it's not in my mix.
so no, it's no side chain compression from me.
When I read that, it already amazed me (good ears for hearing it though !!),
because I can easily spend an hour or more on a fade-in (same for my fade-outs),
totally overkill, but that's just me I guess...

Anyway...
It's the Icelandic CUNT that was kind enough to HELP me !!
That'll teach him !!!

Those fucking helpful cunts, always trying to make the world a better place and shit...

I agree with you
But concerning the brightness of your mix I think it's about right as it is, but you be the judge sir !

Thanks man. Is it really the 'best' you've heard from me? I mixed it together from some audio clips I had lying around from unfinished projects. The bass and kick are both 100% mine and analog. I worked with the bass by just looping a much longer bassline until I found one that grooved well. Then just tuned it by ear to match the stabs.

The pump comes from me kinda understanding how to do the master compression that Steve wrote about.

I actually had a good time looping it together!

I'll finish it soon, and try to keep the ass-shaking present for 5 mins.

Ps that's probably the only time me and Robert Hood will ever be mentioned in the same sentence!!!

yeah, it was obvious your pushing and pulling effect came from using compression.
it's probably responsible for half of the groove though.

Before I work on it more, is the compression too much?
