Ableton 10 anyone?
Just wondering if anyone picked up the upgrade? I'm sure there's a few here. Any good?
I'm not sure I need it. I have more than enough to work with in 9 but maybe I could be swayed...

Re: Ableton 10 anyone?
yeah i bought the upgrade (since it was on special)
but it's not actually released yet, so it's a prepurchase situation
however i did today just get a beta invite... so i'll know soon how good it is!

Not done the dirty yet.
Not had the time, still not built my new machine yet either, got too many projects on the go and I don't want to switch up until they are complete.
Odd as usually I upgrade straight away.

What is Live 9 ?
Some people seem really unhappy how they changed the automation while others are whining about the new font. Obviously those people just have bad taste

Yeah the new font is awesome!
Arrangement view seems much easier to keep uncluttered. You can edit/delete automation without having to expand the track.. that is awesome. Also visually much easier to see midi notes etc.
Editing multiple clips is a god send.
Wavetable is a powerful beast too.
Impressed.
Edit : Collections is awesome for getting to sounds quickly!

Re: Ableton 10 anyone?
I've been using it exclusively since they opened the beta. Very happy with the additions and changes.
I strongly prefer using stock devices and the new ones are all great. Wavetable is a really well designed synth and makes a nice compromise between accessibility and flexibility. The UI is very well thought out. It's fully accessible from Push 2 and I've had some good ideas just playing around on the Push doing sound design. If you're already using a more fully featured wavetable synth it might be less interesting but I think it's a great stock instrument.
Drum Buss made an instant impact on my drum sounds. I'm pairing it with Microtonic and the amount of range and control you get with just those two is amazing. I've stopped worrying about my drums entirely since using this.
Pedal is another small but well designed device that produces a lot of different useable sounds. Seems an improvement over Overdrive.
Echo gives you so many delay/space creating options in one device. It also has a nice UI.
My impression with the new devices is that they wanted to package up some common workflows in smaller compound devices, but I think they also go further in terms of sound than you could have done building effects racks with the older devices.
Love the new automation editing system which is much more intuitive, though a lot seem up in arms about the changes to how you view automation in arrangement view.
Multiple clip editing is another great new feature.
I've started using groups within groups to reduce the need for explicit bussing.
New Push features are great (smarter device UIs, new clip editing UI, new melodic step sequencer).
The new packs are well put together and will be loved by some, 'Punch and Tilt' is a new techno-focused one.
Max integration is much improved! Faster to startup, devices look much better and are less glitchy when scrolling. Lots of under the hood fixes make it feel in general a lot more solid. Feels much more like a part of Live now rather than bolted on.
I've preordered the upgrade and will be buying it day 1.

Great review thanks man!
Re: Ableton 10 anyone?
Cool, sounds positive so.
I'm looking forward to having the multi clip editing as I used it a lot in cubase days.
Found myself packing a whole track into a single midi clip on a drum rack so I could visually see patterns.
Not an ideal way to work! ..

What do you think about CPU load relevant to 9?

Again, no difference for me in CPU (perhaps slightly less, if anything but marginal.) It loads samples in the browser way faster also.nomadjames wrote:What do you think about CPU load relevant to 9?

I'm pretty excited. Hoping to be running it on a new MBP, too, but I want to buy my woman a diamond before I get a new computer.
