I believe i need a pitch shifter but how to achieve this on ableton ? There is no pitch shifter in ableton. Only Logic have one. And i really can't work with this DAW.

Lots of ways to change the pitch in Ableton. Easiest would be to load a percussion sample in simpler/sampler and it'll transpose across the keyboard.

Reminds me of Pearl Syncussion SY-1.

if you have ableton live suite then there is a pitchshifter in the max for live devices.

That's an insult to the SY-1, you could probably get some similar sounds out of it if you tried but it sounds much more interesting than that.

Sounds like a pitched down wooden anything being hit.

Record a door being knocked on with something solid.
Pitch it down, jobs done.
Anything woody with some depth.

Go to freesound.org and download knocks and wood sounds

You can thank me after you come round to my studio and clean up all the vomit I spewed from having to listen that tune to identify the sample source.

Could also just be processed noise.

I'll make sure to put that in my care box for a review at a later time.

You can make those shit sounds with just noise and a resonant filter peaking out frequencies you want and then adding some drive/saturation

[edit] oops somebody already said noise

It's not noise. I have used sounds exactly like this.
I almost thought it was stolen from my library. Hard to get those type of transients in the attack just by using noise unless you are an accomplished sample smith and very creative. And judging by the utter banality of the track I don't think the producer would have spent that kind of time on it, as everything is so generic.

Well I know I can get that sound from just using noise, eq and an envelope. But the sound is pretty shit to be honest

I do.

Anyhow, I been using these woody kind of sounds ever since I became obsessed with field recording for techno.
My stuff from 2010 onwards is scattered with these wooden clonks.

Here`s an example picked at random from 2015

and another from
2009

Cool stuff man, sounds wicked. What's your recording device/s when capturing sounds? I literally know nothing about contact mics or field recorders or any of the prices either. I really could do with something though.

I've been using an old tascam dr07mk2 for...years. it's never let me down.
I'm gonna treat myself to a new one this year Dr 40 or Dr 44. Can't go wrong with tascam.
Contact mics I use Jrf C series

I made my own buffer\preamp, you get better frequency response with em, but you can buy piezoelectric preamps everywhere.

Cheers, might have some more questions when I come to buy but it wont be for a while yet. I'm getting really into the whole idea of external sounds. There's only so much you can coax out of synths and drum synths or whatever and for certain sounds, it's why I favour samples ( albeit, re-pitched, filtered down or whatever ) but yeah, it's a whole new world - at least in my head. I read of somebody sampling their kick through a ghetto blaster in a subway and using that reverberated kick in creative ways. Potential game changer, at least for me.

Best kick drums I have made were me hitting an empty dumpster with a knobkerrie (a Zulu club weapon I take with me when on recording expeditions) down an alley between high buildings.
The reverb and the boom are awesome. Pitched down and compressed its a club ruiner.

Fridge doors are great too.
Stick your recorder inside the fridge and slam it. You get a lovely dry "whump".
