How to get this rolling feel in the Kick/subbass?

Post by Andre_Crom »

Hi,

been struggling to get this kinda sub like in e.g. these tracks:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YeVIMfiX0QU
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KSjIH0IPaP4

Been getting kinda similar results by combining a kick with reverb and low toms, or snippets of the kick without the attack in places in the 1.2 / 1.3 / 1.4 positions of the grid... similar but it's taking me a lot of time and i still feel the references above nail it better than my approaches.

An example: https://soundcloud.com/andre-crom/kick-sub/s-rR4Ps

Would love to hear if you guys have good and straightforward ways to get there?

Thx in advance!

A.

Yeah it's all reverb rumble. Several topics covers it and some variations on it.

It's probably heavy side chaining give it that pumping rhythm. That and they probably re-sampled the verb and played around with the waveform placement until they got a nice rhythm.

Welcome to the forum, you are the 1 millionth forum member to ask this question.
Unfortunately you get no prize, we just track you down to where you live, wait until you are asleep then hold you down and slowly remove your fingernails with pliers.

Or you could go here and read

hello André, how have you been ?

Welcome to subsekt.

At times we can come across as a bunch of cunts,
but make no mistake : this is the most helpful forum about techno production you'll ever come across.
This place is stuffed with useful tips if you look around a little.

Only reason they didn't give you a straight answer is because we have been asked this question about 500x in the last 2 years or so,
which is (unfortunately) a good proof of how popular and over-used this trick has become.

I thought I would find at least 1 topic on it in the archive part of this forum, where we are slowly trying to gather some of the most relevant topics,
but it must be the general aversion we have for it here that forbids us to add it. :)

Let me know if you haven't found the info yet, and I will try and find one of the better topics on it.
I just tried the search function, but I always thought the search function on subsekt doesn't really work very effectively.
(I usually find what I want faster by scrolling through a few pages)

Also, can I ask if it's normal that your clip has a few parts where there's some horrible digital noise in it ?
As if your file is corrupted or as if something went wrong while uploading it to SC (which has happened with one of my tracks before)
I tried it at least 3x, even opened the link again, and the noise is still on the same places in the clip, so I doubt it's my system here.
(can some others here confirm if they had this noise as well ?)
I know it's just a short clip, but yeah, I would hate it when I had this sort of thing going on in any of my stuff. :)

actually Steve, I just quickly browsed through the 2 pages,
and couldn't really find any topic about this one.
Now, in all fairness, I only went into maybe 1 or 2 topics very briefly,
so I only looked at the topic titles and could be a total cunt who overlooked things.
(have been hoping to finish a track for days now, so unfortunately no time to look for ages)

If I did, my humble apologies.
The reverb rumble thing was never really my cup of tea.

It's here, Hades:

http://www.subsekt.com/viewtopic.php?f=48&t=7146

It's a one-stop shop for all your subby, rumbley and reverby bass needs. it's a few threads combined, so it probably doesn't read end to end well, but all the info is there. We created the archive so we don't have to keep answering this exact question, all the other stuff is a by-product!!

thx Planar,
I most definitely overlooked it, cause it's right there in the archive part,

I can't even understand how I didn't see it in the first place...
I guess serious sleep deprivation from the last 4 days is currently killing my focus...

Mr Crom owes you a beer for this ;)

Yep, the clue of the thread is that it is called
"Creating heavy heavy heavy techno sub bass lines!"

I even uploaded a pictorial guide.

I totally stand corrected Steve.
my apologies.

One of these days I might decide I wanna go the big room techno route,
and no doubt on that day I will lick your balls for an hour or two out of pure gratitude for this lovely tutorial,
while making a pot of your favorite gentleman's crack ;)

Because I fear that day might be a bit far ahead in the future, I think some one else should take the honors on that privilege !
Especially if this pictorial guide was just now quickly composed and if it wasn't just buried somewhere in that long topic,
because if that proves to be the case, a simple beer just won't do ! ;)

That face when someone's tunes you buy shows up and asks that 'noob' question that everyone is tired of answering...

I wonder if it's just that there isn't a single key term that people look for this technique under and therefore it's hard to find on the first pass of searching.

Anyways, welcome Andre. Thanks for the music. Don't be put off by the cunty tendencies - techno is serious business after all 8-)

Hey guys, thx for the many replies; will go through the links you posted.

I did watch a bunch of tutorials on this before, but never found a method which i felt consistently got me where i wanted, hence the "noob" question.
