On the rape business, yeah it can mostly be hit or miss.

The popular opinion of prisons being nothing but wall to wall rapes, kinda bugs me. It doesn't really happen, and the likelihood of being raped there is realistically, "above average" but still very unlikely.

Yeah the charts are a joke and the site itself is too, think they are close to bankruptcy. I still use it to buy specific tracks though, but I only go there for that, I already know what I want.

Juno download is very good alternative as is Traxsource for more house related stuff. Clone digital store has some good stuff too.

Bandcamp is the best really, if what your looking for is on there, as the artist/label gets the best deal.

beatport is now separate from all the other nonsense the parent companywas doing such as the edm festivals and the video streaming business and so it is pretty safe from going bust for the time being.

i see it as the equivalent of high street music store vs independents. you might get a "better" range of music as the independent or specialist store, but most people went to HMV because it was well known and had the pop music they were looking for.

Beatport is pretty much a last resort for me, when I cant find a track anywhere else.
Also, their prices are obnoxiously high. Pay a euro per track if you want lossless (even for loops) and then a VAT change on the total. All the while, the cart total at the top of the page stays the same so you never know how much you will be spending.

Go for bandcamp if you can.

Beatport is the last resort for me, if I can't get a track I want anywhere else.

I'll sometimes use it to demo tracks I've never heard, then buy them elsewhere if I can, Bandcamp is the best for me if the tracks you are looking for are on there.

This is what I'm doing: AIFF's only at Hardwax or Bandcamp. If not available there, I just leave it alone.

HW is the only shop I buy from.
That and some proper discogs digging can get you a long way.
Stay away from the discogs sharks though. No record is ever worth their price.

I found out there is another issue with beatport that I never thought before. We run a small indipedent label trying to do mostly techno and we do not have a beatport account. We do not believe in beatport. But.... the artists do! We received some demos recently and some were really good (from our perpective) but the artists never signed since we do not do beatport!!

I think it is natural for most people to want maximum exposure. Beatport is a big, popular beast, there is no denying that

Yeah, stick to the plan...fuck beatport. If explaining why to the them doesn't have any impact, then they're prob not the right fit for your label, no? ..
