Re: Jim Sandford - Frisk
The lowend doesn't really have a lot of punch, feels a bit flappy. That 808-ish hat is a bit too sharp and resonant in the high mids / high end. There's a lot of stuff rapidly flying around the stereo field, on headphones it's a bit much actually. Those drone-y sounds are a bit loud. That lead that comes in around 1:20 is a bit vanilla and dry, could use some filtering/FX etc. to make it more interesting.

I found that the background stuff was interesting and kept me listening but agree with the above poster about the bleep sound that comes in, it could do with some more variation either melodically or sound-wise. The rhythm was pretty sharp/tight soundwise but was also very sparsely arranged, could do with some more variation.

Yeah the mix is a bit messy.
It`s overly dense and the dynamics are inconsistent so you really need to dig in to this and clean it all up.
Kick starts all clear and present in the beginning and then pretty much gets more and more buried as elements are added.
This suggests to me that too many element have presence in the low end, so studious use of low cuts and low shelving on sounds to clear out the lows would help a lot.
Some big reverby lightsabre like sound comes in at about 36 seconds and it sounds removed from the mix spatially.
Everything is dense and solid up to the, and then this sound comes in and it pokes out on the right hand side of the mix, sitting outside the tune, so that could do with a more even stereo spread and pulling down in the mix.
Then the beep synth comes in and is more centred, further emphasising how out of place the previous sound is, it also sounds more inside the mix due to this.
Once the resonant build starts before the final hat comes in at 2:30 the mix is already full.
The hat has too much high frequency and volume, so it also pops out of the top of the mix and feel separate from everything.
It`s a tricky mix to deal with. Lots of big sounds, reverb, dense lows.
A studious and more clinical use of subtractive EQ will help, and possibly using some mid-side EQing so that the rhythmic elements sit in the centre and the more ambient elements sit on the sides, maybe sidechaining the sides to the kick will also help, just a touch.
Yeah, a tough one, you are going to have to work hard on this.

Interesting track. agree witch comments above. I would spread out the elements over the track and with that change tha arrangement. And perhaps think about a string or a pad (in the background) to carry a homogeneous feeling throughout the whole track.
