Amøbe - Skovtur

Post by Amøbe »

It's been a while since I went down the ambient-techno road, and I'm kind of curious as to how well I succeeded in it, so if anybody wants to listen to my attempt, I'd be a very happy man :)

Sounds good. Kick maybe a tad bit resonant around 100-ish hertz? Hat is a tad bit dry and transient-heavy compared to the rest of the mix, which is fairly soft.

Thank you for listening :) I'll try to fix those issues - but I'm always hesitant to put too much verb on hats... do you (because your mixes are always ace!) have any type of reverbs that works well with hats?

Short, low room size, plate-ish can work well, e.g. ValhallaPlate. Not heard as a reverb necessarily, just for softening/extending the sound. Mono-ing the verb can also help there.

Thanks for the pointers :) I'll try and work with that!

I typed out a huge reply, but got timed out.

Yeah, the kick doesn't gel with the rest of the track, it sounds completely stand alone. As always, dub dub is right.

After about 3,30 there seems to be some resonant peaks that could maybe do with some gentle eq to tame them a bit, or it could just be my ears,

I like the chord choice that gives it a slight unpleasant/uncomfortable feel. Nice

Thanks for listening (and the effort of writing a long reply :D )

I tried to follow your pointers - at 3.30 there's a deeper FM and ring modulation going on at the same time, which did produce some peaks, so I tried to catch them. I also tried to make the kick a little less punchy, which I think might suit it better (oh and added some space to the hat)

The tonality of the melody/chord is sort of based on this idea I had a long time ago. I really enjoy late romantic orchestral music, and I tried to mimick some of the concepts they were composing with at the time (obviously this is not an orchestral piece!). So late Wagner early Schoenberg stuff - before everything went completely atonal, but just became slightly more confident in adding dissonances :)

thats a good track!
really like the overall atmosphere and feel

in the second version the kick gels more, but i would rather have a kick with more lowend and less midrange on this track.
I think in deep techno the kick doesent have to bang that hard, or stand out in the mix
i also think that some more modulation on the bassline would fit the track good.

Anyway good piece, keep it up!

we should all put more verb on our hats!

cool track, good atmosphere as others have commented and the pads have a very good sound to them. there is a lot going on there right with all the mountain creeks and field recordings?
