Great one! D&b used to be so good, wtf happened?

Also dig The Pulse by the same guys.

Possible, I haven't went to a d&b party in ages so I probably have missed out on the good stuff. The modern stuff I have heard has been very clean, very polished, very technical, often very poppy too, ie. not the type of stuff I enjoy. I like a little ruggedness and edge + a bit of sweat in my music, in d&b even more so.

Feel free to drop some links to make me think otherwise, I'm always open to suggestions.

i certainly think the late 90's early 2000's were the glory days for DnB.

We have a thread dedicated to it, but Narratives Music, Samurai/Horo, Exit records, Auxilliary etc, etc the same labels I recommend in all these threads. I hate the kind of dnb you're referring to; but your opinion is like saying all techno is bumcode. It's very healthy right now in some areas and fucking awful in others.

You won't find much that sounds like The Nine technically these days, the guys from Bad Company have acknowledged more than once that it's not mixed well. Good tune, but massively played out.

Yes, all the mixes in my sig are those kind of mixes (the current one isn't my best). Good example of modern dnb was just released on blackest ever black: https://soundcloud.com/blackest-ever-bl ... phic-clips

I dunno, IMO their comeback track from 6 or so months ago sucked ass, from all points of view. Maybe it was technically speaking "mixed better" but it just doesn't have the weight and power their best output has. The Nine sounds great in a club, you definitely won't see people leaving the dancefloor in disgust because the mix is so amateurish. A bit of roughness and edge is not a bad thing, you're not trying write a backing track for Phil Collins.

Who cares about their comeback track? All but 1 member of Bad Company went in directions I hate, and I agree, that track was shit. The Nine has weight, but it sounds off imo even compared to contemporary tracks of the time. Lots of their tracks levels are all over the place, percussion too loud, bass too low in others.

Modern dnb still has roughness and edge, but done with a lot more refinement (these aren't mutually exclusive concepts). Yet again (boring myself now), check out some of those labels and their artists, there is great stuff around.

Btw, we can't all live in this bubble where everything in the 90's was perfect and nothing will ever be able to touch it. Techno, house, dnb, whatever. It was a great time, but it's gone, I don't want to listen to those records for the rest of my life.

there is nothing wrong with the mix on the nine track. i would say its perfection, its a genre defining track. the group might say that they intended for the mix on this track to be different from how it is but every producer in the world would say that.

Even though the 90's is my favorite period in music, I'm not a purist by any means. Most of my records are from the 21st century actually. I find plenty of modern house and techno that's both musically and sonically interesting. I just haven't found that in drum&bass. I've heard some decent stuff, but nothing worth buying really.
