Re: Post pics of your techno cave
Haha, it's pretty banging in every way! I've been lucky in that I got a house with a seriously robust workshop that I've adapted, but if I was to start from scratch one of those flat pack kit log cabin sort of things would actually do just as good a job, just some insulation, external wiring and security and it'd be good to go.Lost to the Void wrote: ↑Fri Sep 07, 2018 2:13 amYou sir, win the prize.
That's awesome
Every man needs a techno shed.
I want one now. I have a garden and we need a new shed......

The mixing position. Currently mixing ITB after power supply problems with the Mackie.
3 sequencers in parallel are able to sequence and control all the hardware. Every sequencer has it pros and cons and I like the ability to choose.
Ableton generates a stable master clock via a expert sleepers Usamo. It's a huge upgrade since I've noticed and accepted that midi over USB is a pain in the ass! I have a Novation Nocturn that I've configured to be the remote control and start the hole setup in recording modus.
The Dj setup that's positioned after the Jaspers rack. The accoustic treatment and the DJ furniture is self made. Acoustic treatment is developed with somebody who builds studio's and knows his stuff.
I wanted to get the room as good as possible (for a amateur) before filling it with all my stuff.
Currently I'm up and running and feeling motivated to experiment and create tracks.
At the side and the back of the mixing position is some hardware. After puzzling around and testing lost of stuff this is my current (and approved) setup.

Re: Post pics of your techno cave
Wolf, did you build the recessed turntable setup? It looks great, can you share a bit about how?
Re: Post pics of your techno cave
Well Brenda read the comments that I posted on Cougars post. There is also a downside on all this stuff and building things.
Maybe this room creates high expectations from other people after seeing it .
Yes I have this furniture for around 20 years now. It's actually a multi layer table (the back is open):Jean Luc Cougar wrote: ↑Sat Sep 08, 2018 2:35 amWolf, did you build the recessed turntable setup? It looks great, can you share a bit about how?
- 1 layer for a rack amplifier, mini disk recorder and a cd drawer from my very first cd player (It's not in use anymore but if I remove it, there's a hole in the furniture).
- 1 layer for the mixer and the 2 turntables.
- 1 top layer where I cut out the turntables and the mixer.
Nothing rocket science over here but it's nice to keep everything dust free and neatly organised.
All materials can be bought in every DIY shop that has some wood. It's just cheap furniture panels put together.
Someday I'll make a mk2 version of this, but I'm building so much stuff that I actually don't have enough time for music.
It's the downside of building stuff yourself but it's in my natures so... .
I've also build our house myself with the help of my dad (I'm a electrician but I'm interested in everything with a technical background).
That was a giant project of 2 years but I enjoy this everyday.
Eventually I save (lot's of) money by building thing myself but loose precious time. I guess it's time to find some balance. I feel I completed most of my building goals so it's time to make some music since I realise I have more then enough stuff to do that.
I've actually used the Belgian hot summer to get away from the sun and put everything on 2 (full) patchbay's so it's ready to patch and play.

How the fuck do you focus? I'd just have days and days of fiddle fest in there

The most important techno cave fuel is on your desk Jordan! Some brown Trappist beer? I'm actually a beer and Trappist lover as well .
I have a shop specialised in beer and Trappist at a 5 minutes drive from my house ; they have +500 different beers (and Trappist).

I have to admit I committed a 'foutje'. I put a Rochefort 10 in an Achel glass. The monks have cursed me now.
Re: Post pics of your techno cave
Rochefort10 is nice; I'm sure the monks will forgive you when you do 10 'weesgegroetjes'.
The only Trappist from Holland that I know is La Trappe. You guys are better at making Gouda cheese .
Lately I'm into beer that's aged on Whiskey and Wine barrels. You should try that stuff, it's great!

Wolf, wtf, that is EPIC. Fair play dude, that's setting a high standard!!!
Re: Post pics of your techno cave
pretty cool to see where your sound get's to life. jordan, your pic is gone already? would've loved to see your production corner.
here's my humble desk. nice to have the courtains, makes it possible to let sunshine in or to lock the world out. for mixing my measurement mic told me to have them absolutely closed. want to add a controller, as it's pretty anoying to mouseclick arrangements.
