All your gear is obsolete, passe and chauvinistic

the future is here, the future is (self-identified) female and the future is changing lines of code instead of sampling, hitting notes or turning (phallic) knobs.

if, in 2018, you aren't live coding your tracks in half empty rooms while drinking green tea, then you aren't relevant. just giving you the heads up. Check out this months issue of SugarApe magazine for the full low down.

why bother learning how to use gear, when you can just type in [Attack = (50ms) ]?
isn't this so much cooler and live, and present, and real? i can improvise like i am Neo, realizing i am the Matrix, i am the code, i am the Woman in the Red Dress.

//you don't need a pube beard, but it helps

this might be a better look at the whole thing instead of some hipster guardian blogger being a basic bitch about something to pretend she's cool

This reminds of the uber-nerdiness of the old demoscene of the 90s. Glad I got away from that in time.

the bit in the video where they talk about it being good for women and more equal in numbers between the genders because it is less anxiety causing. i'm just interpreting the underlying message and making it absurdly plain to see.

well, if you don t know how to divide time and the relation of time to music, I don t think you going to have the skills or the focus to educate yourself and learn about sound synthesis, not to mention the learning curve to teach one to use a computer with all the peripherals involved and maintain it in usable conditions, expand knowledge, transform improvising on existing techniques etc etc .
so just another reportage for the sake of the reportage . it really feels like a reporter that has no idea whatsoever about music production just got herself a toy.
like a lame person that impulsively bought a gymnastics machine that it is going to spend the rest of its life as a clothes hanger! it takes more than that to master an art.
it s like push a big red button that says ''make music'' and music is made.
well I think we all understand that this red button theory is a full blown stupidity..

Some geek rightly pissed off poor old Mr. Wilson!

I think the idea is cool, nerds expressing themselves creatively, what's wrong with that?

Isn't that just a different kind of DAW/ a different technique of using a DAW?!

It will be the theme of the next issue of dancecult... I have a hard time getting excited over this.

Seeing as the angle of the first video is just some human interest bs saying everyone can do the thing, I think it's safe to say you're probably not the intended audience :v

Just like any other way of making music it depends on what you do with it. That Kindohm guy is actually doing some pretty neat stuff there.

Coding and music is obviously older than techno, but this is pretty awesome. Getting more people into new ideas and creative avenues is great. I would never bash on a tool, that if anything is anti-techno isn't it? ;) But I agree that the reference to affirmative action is real bad. Fuck identity politics!

Using algorithms and coding to write electronic music is interesting. 20 people "raving" and an arts centre annex is totally Mexico.

It's only gotten funnier and more relevant since 2005.

I still settle the odd score with a swift game of Cock Muff Bum'ole to this day

On that note, I see people calling Barley prescient all time but Morris and co got it totally wrong. Stylistically speaking at least, vacuous hipsterism actually went in the exact opposite direction - retro, vintage, "heritage", faux-authenticity.

Barley himself goes around with a bluetooth headset - nobody in East London would have been seen dead with one, now or back then. And working at a dotcom or in "tech" might have been trendy for about 3 minutes, but that was in 1999.
