This one should definitely be in here, one of the few happy-ish trance tunes I actually enjoy.

Love whats happening in the trance and techno world, reminds of some of the tracks in the 90's where it was kind of blended in. People listed some good artists above already, Boston 168, I hate models, amotik. I would also check out Nthng, Exilles (they're a bit more on the techno side) Also check out sets from JOOF and airwave, all the old Bonzai guys. Tracks from those labels are still getting played today too like Yves Deruyter Back To Earth, and Netherworld from LSG (think I heard netherworld way too many times this year along with age of love)

"The Age Of Love" was one of the very first tracks that people "officially" considered to be trance (and it still rocks 25 years later), but most of the big name guys that play these old trance tunes pretty much always play the same ones (Nina & The House Of House, for example), while there are truly some forgotten gems. A lot of those old trance tracks are, as you say, a lot closer to techno than what people consider to be trance nowadays.
I'm Belgian and my teenage years where in the 90's, so yeah, I'm still proud of some of those tracks from around 92 to 97 (though of course they weren't all from Belgium).

I once blew a set of speakers with "The Rebel" from Yves Deruyter (after the break still one of my all time favorite tracks) when I was still a naïve and young DJ. I used the bass EQ knob to turn it up to give huge "accents" to certain kicks, kind of bringing in an extra rhythm, so to say. The speakers didn't survive the fun. :)

Mad trance history in Belgium. Was in Boom this summer and it was pretty awesome learning about the artists and the music that came out of there. Mike Push, Johan Gielen, Yves some of the great exports. Was hilarious when I found out the Antwerp goal song is sonic inc's taste of summer

I think this type of sound is actually starting to fade back into the background and (more mainstream) techno is starting to bend towards the harsher again, and there's been a constant trickle of noisy industrial stuff as well, like Tar Hallow and Pi Electronics. But I digress.

I've been lured in by this sound away from a harsher dark sound I was doing while living in the U.S. (go figure), glad to be back in Canada again. I think for similar reasons to over9000 and mainst09, I was coming from psy scene of early 00s when it was good and diverse, strong overlap with techno at the time from many artists.

For me it's nothing to do with regular trance at all, totally different vibe, there is influence from drone techno, deep techno just as much as anything else. Die Weiße Rose was a really big standout track for 2016, it's not hitting people in the same way those old trance tracks did, none of them ever had such a proper foundation. Maybe a proper techno foundation is a good substitute for the drugs of back then..

You can hear it in their boiler room set from this year too, to me it's an energy I'm just not getting from the angsty dark/harsh techno sound:

It's definitely in the sound of Blind Observatory and others recently, I think it has an appeal for people that is fitting for the end of a night/morning, after people vent pent up negative energy listening to that the harsh/dark sound at the beginning and maybe middle of the night.

will add more when i get home, can never remember artist names, just track names
i come from psytrance, so i like the good trance/techno fusion 8-)
theres lot of crap too, but thats the same as everywhere

where do you come from on planet psytrance? the old goa lands or darker regions? im all about the forest/dark psy!!

for me it took some evolution of the sound before I found my match. I was just another raver in the 90s and started to finally get involved early 00s. In the late 90s I was already a techno head by then, I remember goa sneaking in around that time to the scene but I didn't get won over until came the fused sound of very late 90s early 00s which convinced me to get involved in the scene, to make more parties with that kinda music because otherwise there'd have been none in my small city.

so for me I considered it forest psy mainly because we were the ones hauling generators on muddy forest trails to have bush parties with a healthy mix of psy genres, but focusing on what you might call the tech trance sound in the middle of the night.

for me it was all worth it to hear X-Dream, The Delta, Spirallianz, Midimiliz, Psysex etc all on the soundsystem we dragged in there. The free renegades were some of the best times because they were for all the right reasons, and I'm glad I did them back when i had the energy because I sure as hell wouldn't be able to do that anymore.

Great tune. I didn't get this one at the time but it takes me back to when I was in my late teens and doing the trance thing.
