I somethimes use the Presswerk myself, it's a fine one. But my most used compressor is the Fruity Limiter. Perhaps you should try it. What makes it a good one for beginners, is that you can actually see what you are doing (yess.... i know the best thing is to trust your ears, but a little bit of visual aid can be great somethimes).
