Might as well get paid to stress.

I have bookmarked the links to coding mr Plyphon has given above,

Great work!

Coding isn't for everyone - there is a reason developers get paid the wedge they do - because it is hard and you're sat staring at words on a screen all day. But I've never met a single coder who doesn't love his job. It's a proper passion thing.

That link was just one example of how you can learn real skills for free on the web.

Here is another set of resources for what I do (UX Design):

If you can grasp this stuff and put together a portfolio showing those skills you'll land a junior role in no time.

In other words, I have deep knowledge on a niche technology that the successful startup I'm working for sells.

Barfunkel,

don't give up man. I can understand how depressing it can be, but optimism fuels confidence and confidence is key to landing a job. I'd really recommend getting some re-education or courses, even simply studying something you like online or at Työväenopisto- you'll engage your brain, make new contacts and absolutely every skill and all knowledge you've acquired will benefit you one day.

About 3/4 years ago I was really disillusioned with life/career etc, I'd gone through education and only managed to get this dead end job barely related to what I studied and what I wanted to do. The company was shit, the bosses were typical work house bosses, work was shit, the pay was shit, life was shit. Life isn't all about money and what you do for a living but it's hard to keep that in mind when all around you people are radiating wealth and material achievement.

In the end I got stuck into the community I wanted to be in (new technology/software) and also got into the area I wanted to work in a bit more by joining communities, reading blogs, etc. I quickly learnt what skills/trends are current and where you can get hired. It took time, but 4 years and two jobs later I earn good (great) money and enjoy my life a hell of a lot more, and I have prospects in the future to look forward to.

It's not easy - if it was easy we'd all be earning enough for luxury german cars, swiss watches and japanese synths - but it is possible. You just got to use what advantages you got - luckily if you're reading this you've already got a good grasp of one of the biggest advantages ever - the internet!

I couldn't give a flying fuck about German luxury cars, and I'd rather die than care about Swiss watches,
and I think I already have enough Japanese synths in here as it is, being a Roland fanboy and shit...

tbh, all I'd like is a job where I can look forward to.

and check your PM mr Plyphon ;)
