i think there is a fair number of artists who were around in the 90's and changed their sound to fit the dancefloor because it meant that the money & bookings kept coming. because i follow their output, i can say Slam are in this boat. making tracks to mix well with what is in your box instead of making tracks that are in your head/heart.

but fuck it, why not? if it is your income, you'd change. restaurants have vegan shit on their menus because cunts want it. why not sling out the same techno equivalent if it means your mortgage gets cleared? there's a lot of misplaced honour in the idea of the Starving Artist.

i have a load of pre 2004-05 Bumload vinyl , maybe only a handful downloaded tracks post-beatport

DC is gateway Techno. I know many newcomers to Techno that discovered it through Bumload.

Anyone remember the gain lane series on Bumload.
I've got the box set here. Class techno before the shift to minimal

Gain02 was the best one, check "Square". My interest was lost for Bumload releases by many years already when the Gainlane series was hot stuff.

I was well in to goa and psy at one point. I blame LSD. There was huge scene in london.
Labels like transient and dragonfly. Acts like astral phoenix, cosmos is and so on. Has it progressed at all or is it still 8 minute arpeggio madness?

well you have all that prog and full on shit, but at night for me is brilliant forest and dark particularly is beautiful. hard to get into tho but it is another level of music, the basslines are addictive and the sounds really well worked, basically swamp groovy shit!

examples:

one of my favorites, the so called forest!

This is dark, you can notice it has a lot more noises and haunty sounds, but the groove wow

I saw arjuna on a festival this summer, still can't express what ive heard, this is so strong live, never felt this kind of basslines frequencies live, makes so much sense loud!
strange and different stuff but i think this is amazing!

We were banging acid and spinning out in fluoro clubs to this type of shit.

The music really doesn`t seem to have changed at all.

The only label that pushes psy further nowadays is Zenon records, when psytrance meets with minimal techno and organic sound effects

That said, I like to dance to forest and hi-tech, never ending madness.

In Sweden it was quite common to have parties with both psy-trance / goa and Techno in different rooms back when. I've had my fair share of psy on a dance-floor as well. Good times

Taking the piss out of Bumload while bigging up Goa Trance is probably the biggest oxymoron out there :)

psytrance is awesome 8-)
people can say that it hasent changed that much since its begining, but seriously did techno or any other genre?
and i can certainly see an evolution from the 90s goa to modern psytrance.
i mostly enjoy forest and nightpsy/darkpsy. i think its the same as everywhere, there are a few good artists/labels that push the sound forward, theres the more generic ones and the cheesy/bad ones.
and its a fact, that psytrance as a genre is more restricted then eg techno, theres basically 3 different kinds of basslines, all the western harmony in classic psytrance etc. I still love the tracks from the good artists.
not to mention, that psytrance festivals are the best
youtu.be/4-F83iinido

theres also very experimental darkpsy

I stand corrected, you used to like it but don't anymore. Much like Paul Oakenfold then.

Whenever i'm at a Festival and there is a Techno stage (line-up: Juncate, Crunction, Mike Darker, Paula Stemple, Ben Cock, Marcel Fettmann) AND a psy-trance area (line-up: I don't care), be sure i'm hanging out at the psy stage. Waaaay cooler people and music for this specific setting.
