We had a thread about herethis.at before. It seems ok but there is just nobody there. At least back then it was like that. Maybe worth a 2nd look now.

Hearthis is too messy imo.

Seriously, social media is growing out of my armpits, let them burn.

We need something structured, friendly and advertisement free. Something that really connects people, rather than ego's.

Whoever was calling the shots really fucked it up.
Likely it will die, like good ol' myspace, the minute something new (like the original site) will come along.

The thing is the internet and communication moves and develops so fast. I can see it being more of a hub for cells of people instead of individual ac's, it'll be a proper network of smaller cells linked up.

The "come one and all" platform is dead!!!

todays money was partly invested by Singapore's sovereign wealth fund, so they will be looking at it to make a return every year as a priority instead of being a new music discovery social network platform. if i was sceptical i would say they have invested in a brand and an audience/"community" that they can exploit for money, which is how they will see the returns they will be expecting. they didn't invest in the original idea of soundcloud, which is probably long gone.
maybe the name will survive, but it doesn't mean that soundcloud as it is will last long at all.

I took a look there the other day. It's still going.I'm not sure how though. Doesn't seem like many people are using it. But it did come across as marketing it self towards creatives.

You all have the player embedded in your sig. Out of interest, if Soundcloud turned around and said you had to pay 1c every time you got a play, would you roll with it, where it flips after 1000 plays and they start giving you the same rate back? ..

Doubt that any of this will lead into a sustainable business model.
