problem is that DJ'ing became so widely spread nowadays.

I'm gonna sound like an old and grumpy cunt, but I guess that's just one of these almost unavoidable things when you get older...
When I started DJ'ing, I was 15, and the only reason I started DJ'ing was because from all the people in my year of high school I simply had the biggest music collection.

Nowadays, if my neighbor's cleaning lady's cat has 5 new kittens,
4 of those will be a "DJ" by next week, and 3 of those will have their own youtube channel and a mixcloud account.
Digital technology has made things easier than ever, and people can get their MP3's for free from the wonderful www.

So no wonder people associate producers with DJ's.
I mean, let's face it, if you want to make a living off your music in techno country,
it usually means you gotta DJ almost every weekend.
The two got so much intertwined with each other most "normal" people can't even tell the difference any more.
It's almost as if it takes balls to just be only a producer and not a DJ as well.

After not having DJ'ed for maybe 10 years, I bought myself a controller last year.
Still haven't used it one single time, just because I'm afraid I'll lose too much time with it.
Time I would otherwise use for making my own music instead of playing someone else's tracks.
But I loved DJ'ing, and my music collection is far bigger now than when I used to DJ so many years,
so yeah, when I do restart making mixes, it's gonna be fun, that much I'm sure of. :)

I doubt that though...
(and if so, I'll just replace it some day)
It's not like I want the latest new thing for this, just a handy controller and some version of the SW will be more than fine for me to start again with the DJ'ing.
It only becomes totally obsolete when you can't use it any more on your computer.

I actually would have preferred to use vinyl, but I currently don't have the cash for the DJ mixer I want,
and it might be a few more years before my DJ room is ready as well
(I don't want to use any space for that in my studio).

Pedro once used my controller to make a wonderful mix under his Cindy alias,
banging it out on my ground floor while I was making tracks in my studio one floor above.

I gave up on looking at gear in terms of "do I use it enough ?"
Some of my synths barely get switched on at all,
but when they do deliver that magic moment just once in a while, that's more than enough to satisfy my consciense.

some times, perhaps most of the time,
I can be extremely stupid with internet jokes.
so I'm not gonna pretend I get this.
(Planar always says I'm bad at getting jokes and my mother always told me to listen to the advice of wise friends that like DnB)

please do elaborate if you didn't mean I am repeating myself !

Ah good answer! I ran a search, just for fun.
I guess you had the biggest music collection!!
Nothing wrong with that, I'm sure John Peel would not disagree.
