Recommend me some techno

Post by innovine »

Hello, I am looking for some techno mixes.
I want something that's a bit dark, with lots of UNTZ UNTZ, a simple synth line bass, and a few swishy effects over the top. No reverby berghain rumbles, or any of that dreary mush of samples and field recordings. I like to hear some decent synth action, but not too much, and not with a housey, happy vibe.. Overall vibe should be dark, hypnotic and throbbing.
I found this:
youtu.be/4Rc-NGWEHdU
which is good in most places. Could be a touch darker, but IMHO the synth bass lines are taking a lot of the focus, and there's a hypnotic groove but lots of changes. I'm liking the arrangements and sound design for the most part. Oldschool, 90s vibes, especially in the arrangements, is really welcome.
Recommendations along these lines would be very welcome!

Try the mixes and podcasts on 2poles' site. They're producing and mixing a lot of good stuff - well for me anyway.

Maybe that's too obvious, but check out rodhad. He's a master of decent hypnotic techno. And also phase is worth listening..

It's hard to find mix that would be UNC UCN from the beginning till end.
Grab one of mine, there is plenty of tracks just like you described towards second half of the mix.

Artistwise I would recommend you to check following:
MPIA3
Empyrean
74185#
Anthro

Loads of DONK DONK stuff ;)

Damn I really didn't like music in that mix, so very happy and uplifting. Maybe bad advice from my side but check out mixes from deejays who made " Beatport top 100 Minimal " roughly 4-5 years ago? They seemed to play lots of the stuff in that video.

He's got a serious acne situation going on though.

Maybe that is tempering with his ability to perceive frequencies.

Anyway, I'll take the liberty to recommend you some techno, sure 8-)

I had to hear how bad it was after this comment. I thought I heard something decent of this guy years ago... Skipped through the video, horrible. Cant help OP with suggestions, sorry.

Personally, I liked Boris Brejcha a lot some years ago. He just goes over the top in his tracks a bit too much sometimes, that's when I get put off. Saying he sounds like Beatport top 100 minimal techno of 5 years ago is not giving the guy enough credit though if you look at what a following he has amassed for himself. He created a style of his own, and that's something that can't be said for most. That being said I haven't been impressed by him for a long time.

He will be too digital sounding for most folks here.

the OP video popped up in my YT recommendations a couple of days ago and i put it on because the setting looked interesting. wasn't anything amazing to listen to.
i've seen/listened to a few mixes recently where the DJ is wearing a mask, maybe 5 or so. seems to be a weird current trend, if 5 counts as a trend, who knows. there's one guy who pops up on NI facebook with a mask and a saxophone. seems a bit of a weak branding effort.

on another note, DJs should never wear a Multi-band Sweatshirt while DJing.

I meant that the stuff he plays sounds a lot like how the music deejays who used to be in the top 100 minimal played.

I have a very hard time with those "edm" / brostep influences in there.

Very understandable, I think that set is bad as well. I was personally not into the minimal techno-hype at the time because most tracks sounded very generic and similar to me. I think the biggest difference between Boris sound, and that of most minimal techno artists of that time is that Boris is less repetitive and sounds "larger/louder" which will be appreciated by the regular crowd, but less so by the purists (I am not a purist;-)). I just wanted to attest to his talent as a producer, but completely agree if someone would find him cheesy in some of his tracks where he goes over the top.

For the TS, check out Enrico Sangiuliano and Oliver Huntemann
