@hades on demand TV with kids is almost impossible to control, and completely shapes their perception of TV. We grew up with channels and schedules, well say bye bye to that.

We recently bought a new TV built in wifi and Ethernet so has Netflix and YouTube built-in. My Eldest only needs to press the big Netflix button and go into her "Kid's" area (a good feature), but she can watch anything, anytime. Even my youngest who's 2 demands what to watch even if he's can't do himself. No going back dude....

well, my kids don't know anything yet. I'm just planning to move the tv and speakers to downstairs as soon as they come installing it. No money for a new tv at the moment, but they're not exactly the type to care about that.

I'm pretty sure Netflix alone won't do it for my kids.
I was just talking to the babysitter yesterday, and she has Netflix,
and she confirmed what I thought : great, but not exactly much Dutch stuff on,
and my youngest can't read subtitles yet.

So I think they'll most likely go for the typical Belgian kid's tv for the first few years.

We have netflix, but I prefer my kids not to watch, as they don't get 'randomly' exposed to the cooler things on tv, like nature programs and stuff.

We use it sometimes, but the main issue is that the programs just play and play, so they don't experience variety when they watch tv. There is enough stuff in Nederlands though, although I don't mind if my kids watch in English.

hey, I don't mind either, the more they watch stuff in English the better.
I learned my English from watching tv, playing with my Canadian cousins pretty much every summer,
and that was it.
I remember I was pretty much fluent in English from when I was 8 years old,
or at least for as much as an 8 year old could possibly need of another language.
And I only got English at school when I was 15.

you know, I never even bought a single tv in my life up till now (and I'm 38) ?
me and my mrs must have had like 5 or 6 tv's as hand-me-downs from others in the 18 years we've been together now.
From really tiny tv's, to older heavy tv's, and even now we have 2 flatscreens.
One is pretty big but way too old specs-wise, and the other one is decent size and decent specs.
All from people who upgraded.

you can all have a laugh, but believe me when I tell you I'm not saying this to brag about myself,
I'm saying this because I got kids, and as a parent, you look at your kids,
and when they seem good or bad at something, or a fast learner or a slow learner,
you tend to look back to your own youth from time to time and wonder :
"hey, how old was I when I learned how to swim/learned to ride a bike/learned to speak... ??"
You just do, it's stupid, but you do it anyway.

My kids get raised bilingual since my mrs is German.
My oldest was literally bilingual when she was 2,5 years old or something.
My youngest is now 5 and still has trouble with most of her German.
I consider languages an extremely important skill in our day and age, and I don't consider the English classes here as good enough to learn my kids English (French is the one they shove down your throat in my part of the country),
so yeah, if I can find any extra ways to learn them English, then I'd be quite happy.

even the piano.
I survived for years on my XV88, and only decided to buy a real piano when my oldest was getting at an age when they start developing an interest.
They are only allowed in my studio when I'm there, and then I'm sitting in front of the keys.
I wanted to offer them instant access to an instrument.
Eventually my oldest chose cello (which is totally fine by me, I'm even happy that there's finally another instrument in the family), but she still plays tunes on the piano almost every day.

Some new vst plugin I think.

I hear someone is making a fully analogue 909 too. Apparently looks something like this

another thing we have to consider is the fact that my youngest got born with Duane syndrome (not to be confused with Down in any way), which gives her problems with her eye-sight.
Plus she suffered a mild stroke as a fetus, which makes her right hand side extremely under developed.
It's hard to tell when you see her because she's good at covering up and compensating with her left hand side,
but nonetheless it's a kid you worry about. It'll always be hard for her with a big sister that seems to be good at pretty much anything she tries (as long as it's not sports).
Even if she, for example, would chose to play piano, we're just not sure if she'll ever be able to do it properly (and if it won't give her endless frustration) because of her over-developed left hand and under-developed right-hand.
There must instruments more suitable, but yeah, we don't want to push her into anything either.
She looks up at her sister like crazy, and in a way we'll always try to find any chance we get to offer her something she might possibly be better at than her older sister.

I grew up with tv, I don't like admitting it, but I must have learned some stuff from it, maybe now it's the time to see if my youngest can't learn some shit from tv. :)
