Beautiful techno

Post by The_G »

Was just listening to Maceo Plex and had me thinking, techno is often percussive, harsh, dark, mechanical--all these things are beautiful in their way, but techno can be quite beautiful in a more conventional way as well. So I thought I'd start a thread about tracks that really move us or impress us with their beauty. I'll start with a few that really get me.

New-ish, like an updated version of the Detroit sound:

From Chicago but as techno as Derrick May, so it counts:

Oh, and here's the first techno vinyl I ever bought--and still one of my all-time favorites:

youtu.be/zDvintSVnKQ

I still remember the first time I heard this one:

youtu.be/gPuA-Zun4rk

My sentimental favorite of 90s Swedish techno (and kind of atypical for that scene):

Man, this still rocks. It's been overplayed, but unlike some of it's contemporaries, it's stood the test of time.

For me it's still magic

I'd forgotten about this. You're right though - still sounds great.

Another famous one that never gets old, for me at least...

And the last one from me.

I think this my no.1 techno track. In all seriousness (well top five). It's minimal and 'beautiful'.

It's just fantastic. I can't describe it in any other way. It's everything I strive to make my music.... Simple/ minimal yet full of feeling. I've never heard it on a dance floor, but I can imagine the damage.

Edit - Evert, that Sound of Violence track is awesome

Wonderful track nonetheless.

I've been reading his biography, and I'm still anxiously waiting for the moment he starts talking about when he made that track.

has been a favorite of mine for years.
The way the bass climbs up at a certain moment, and then kind of hands over the melody to the lead and goes back down...

this one sounds even better when you speed it up just a little.
Petar Dundov is excellent at developing melodies,
somehow he's always able to get his Balkan heritage right in there.

and again Dundov showing his skills at developing lead melodies.
Man this track really really breaks open into utter bliss combined with forward drive.
Like the moment your pill properly starts working or something :D
