Are there any other communities like Subsekt?

Hiya,

Subsekt is great, the knowledge level is so high here, and seems to be more focused on the music rather than endless synth debates (hurr hurr GS) - but I'm wondering if there are any other communities thats basically the same as what we've got going on here but for "house" music rather than techno?

I put house in quotes as house is such a loose term these days, potentially looser than techno as a definition, but you know, more house orientated. But the right kind of house. The house we know what we mean when we say house, but not the type of house that other people mean when they say house. I'm really trying to avoid buzzwords like "left field" and "outsider", or "eyes down" and "raw". But left field outsider house with an eyes down and raw vibe. I feel so dirty after that.

Unless Subsekt fancies diversification and fancies a house section...!

I've been thinking about the exact same thing. House is popular, yet there is no popular house production forum (AFAIK at least).

There's an FB group kinda like that, but it's not strictly house, though most people there are into house (the good stuff, not David Guetta house).

There's a good FB group for synthwave production, but it's different from subsekt. Not as much nitty gritty engineering talk, and more talk about the "business" side of things.

But subsekt is pretty different from the other techno forums I've been a part of in the past. Less wanking (by me included) and more just good, informative shit. I've only been on here for less than a year, but I love this place.

It's called Underground Music Production.

Pretty strict policies about self promotion (read: spamming) though. You can't post your own tracks except on a special thread every saturday. Which is great, cos FB groups turn into spamfests without moderation.

Apparently there is an old asylum in Moldova, and the government could no longer afford to run it, so they just left it. And now all the people in the asylum are on their own, and they started a community, with all the various buildings on the grounds they are completely self contained, they grow their own food. It's all obviously weird because they are all batshit crazy. But everyone leaves them alone.

So there is that place.

Just create some threads about house music: given the submissions to the Subsekt mix I think loads of members are into it to some degree. House and Techno are so related that's it's pretty much the same techniques for both genres.

There are other forums where you can find decent info, but a lot of them tend to have huge downsides, for example DOA has some good info, but it's full of loons. Anther problem with a lot of other forums is that there aren't really many pro's chipping in and acting as a bullshit filter. We have Steve and Mattias here who you know you can trust for good info and will stop any miss-information- so there's no culture of spreading audio myths like you get in some places.

There is a closed Facebook group that deals mainly in that kind of house. It's called "strictly lo-fi" - you have to get a member to add you though. And it's more info about new releases rather than production advice.

Yeah I love house, esp. 80s jacking Chicago house and real deep house (not that corny-ass, pseudo-EDM garbage like Duke Dumont that some people are now calling deep house). I can dig a good disco banger too, or super gay diva garage, if done well.

There's also a ton of house that's borderline techno, which you're seeing more and more of in the lofi scene.
