Anyone working on projects from multiple computers?
Anyone working on projects from multiple computers?
I was thinking about getting Ableton on my laptop so I am able to work on projects when I can't use my desktop computer. However, I want to be able to continue working on the projects smoothly. Dropbox seems like an option but not very handy, using Cloud storage seems a bit expensive.

Google drive? Not sure of the question...

USB memory stick?

But when you save the project file and start continuing to work on the project on a different location wouldn't you have a problem with the integration of the samples used? Because the samples don't get saved with the project file right?

Ah, perfect. I didn't even know about this option as I never had to use it before . I guess that was kind of a dumb question. Thanks guys .

Sync might be a cool alternative to dropbox though?

Google Drive really simple. Just ensure 3rd party plugins on both. A good reason to streamline.
Re: Anyone working on projects from multiple computers?
The studio has been down for some months now, so now I usually make music at the dining table on a laptop with just headphones. Before, I used to work on a Macbook pro, and a desktop PC with a bunch of DSP cards and its own audio platform. In the beginning, I swapped Live projects between the Mac and PC, but that got too cumbersome. Later, I only used the PC as a front end for the DSP platform, connected through ADAT to the Mac, just as if it were hardware (it is a zero latency system).
Whatever your double station situation, discipline is needed... having both mac and PC doesn't make it easier.

The only time I use a 2nd computer is when I'm working away from home. So I take my wife's old laptop with me and have live suite installed on it and just use the stock plugs. If the idea is good then I'll transfer it across to my main studio PC and flesh it out to a full track with any 3rs party plugins. It's a nice easy way to work, and I don't have to rely on a shitty internet connection. I've released tracks that were conceived in hotel room before.

Google drive is a good option. Free for up to, I can't remember, but I think 15gb.
Re: Anyone working on projects from multiple computers?
I use an external hard drive to transfer between 2 computers, mainly because one computer has no internet access. One advantage is all my stuff is constantly kept backed up.

Remember, if it's not in three physical locations, it's not backed up at all!

2. External HD
3. Hackintosh
Check!
I know what you mean, nearly lost all my music years ago due to a HD failure. At one stage I had 3 external HD's to back up stuff. One died so down to using 2 HD's and 2 computers.
