Clicking sound while recording

Post by Lag »

Anyone knows what's up with this? It doesn't always happen but when it happens it makes me wanna rip it all apart.
A podcast I did just got up and I realized there's a ton of clicks in it. My bad for not going through my recording obviously but I wanna set up my stuff so that I don't have to go through it.
I record straight from the mixer (DJM 800) out into my Serato SL3 box. Any ideas what it could be? Cables? Mixer? If it's the mixer - why ain't i hearing the clicks on the monitors? Could it be the SL3?
For cables it's obvious but - what and how should I check? Any tips appreciated.

I used to get an issue with clicking when I was using a poor spec laptop and running an early version of traktor. So I don't know what spec computer you have, but maybe something is draining the resources. Wi-Fi used to be an issue for me. See if there is an update for your drivers.

Serato latency / buffer size?

Running out of hard drive space?

Maxing out the CPU on your laptop?

Could be lots of things tbh, but if you don't hear the clicks through the speakers as you record, I'd say that isolates it to Serato box or laptop. The mixer and speakers should be ok.

Is it both left and right channels or just one?

Both channels but the right one seems to be favored.
Buffer size I'm not sure about as it didn't cause a problem on the same buffer settings before but I will play with it. It's a Macbook Pro from 2015. SSD HD inside and has more than enough space in it plus an i7 processor.

I've never had clicking sounds with cables in all these years.
tbh, my gut feeling tells me clicking is pretty much always related to digital trouble,
not analog shit like cables or your mixer.

ouch, just listened to that and heard the clicks after like half a minute or so.
no offence, but if I were you, I'd remove it and retry.
Sounds like a lovely set and the clicks are annoying as fuck.
