Recommend me

Post by Alume »

I thought I'de take the liberty to ask around for some tracks as I'm getting into gigging and I need to fill my library.

I've got quite a lot of deep stuff aka zombie techno and I wanted to lighten up with some good vibes.

I'm looking for percussive stuff with a bit of an ethnic vibe, house techno doesnt really matter as long as its kinda deep and got some nice grooves going.

Some inspiration to start you off:

First thing that came to my mind:

There is not sooo much of a tribal feeling on the Dorisburg album as in the track you posted... but it's awesome. Dorisburg IS awesome! 8-)

I liked the other tracks,
but this one... man what a bad track and video if you ever saw that film.
Kinski was a legendary actor, and when he acted in Herzog films, it was just fenomenal.
To see this badly dubbed Spanish version, and then that thing with the yellow statue (which as far as I remember was obviously not there in the film) that looks badly digitally added...

When they were shooting this film, Kinski behaved like such a total prick that the indians suggested to Herzog they would kill him some time during the night. :D
If I'd know you understand German, I'd show you some of his better performances (or legendary interviews)

be warned man, it's Werner Herzog,
and he's pretty hardcore arthouse film-fan at times,
I doubt you'll like it very much.
this film is basically about some lunatic conquistador who set out in the jungle to find the "city of gold" / el dorado.
It's more about atmosphere than story.

Maybe you are better off seeing Nosferatu from Herzog first.
Kinski plays the vampire in there and does a great job as well,
and there's Isabel Adjani as the lady in need for help.

just saying, I like all Herzog's films,
but I know they're not for everyone.
I used to watch 20 films/month for about 12 years or so,
so I'm pretty hardcore when it comes to films.

tell me what you really liked as films,
and I'll think of some recommendations.
I've watched films from 1916 till now, any genre except stupid shit like romantic comedies or science-fiction (except for superb shit like Blade Runner or the Alien series)
because that stuff just didn't interest me.

Werner is certainly prolific looking at his IMDB, I enjoyed Grizzly Man haven't delved too much deeper seen a few, you have reminded my to check out some more of his... Encounters at the end of the world and wheel of time seem worth a look.

"Encounters..." is actually not that great, definitely not at the level of some of his older work.
I think I saw like 90% of all his films (not counting the last 3 years or so).

Grizzly Man was great, but he only really did the editing of most of the video material,
since the "grizzly man" himself (Timothy Treadwell) and his girlfriend shot most of the stuff.
I'll always remember that scene where he listens to the audio recording of Timothy and his GF being eaten by the bears while he sits next to Timothy's friend. The face Werner has, and how he puts off the headphones and then tells the woman (with his thick German accent) to destroy the tape "it vill alvays be dza elephant in dza room".
God knows I'd never want to listen to that stuff. :?
