Also keep in mind that the bits vintage digital gear get more round when they age, they lose their sharp edge. That's why vintage digital samplers sound so awsum and why it's impossible to emulate them with modern computers.

I think the most common thing I hear form people who claim to have "knowledge" is the classic

"But check the waveform! Digital is squared and analog is a warm wavey sine!" Each time I go Piccard double facepalm.

Well it cannot, I assume you're talking about emulations.
A VST emulation can't compare with it's original.

Even if they somehow manage to really nail (or maybe they even have, at least Diva sounds great and analog-ish from the demos I've heard) the analog sound with plugins one day, I'd still continue making music with hardware. I simply enjoy the experience and the user interfaces much more than using a mouse to move blocks of audio/midi and virtual knobs/sliders round.

I've really tried using computers for making music, even with controllers. It just isn't for me. It's not fun, and I make music for my own personal pleasure. Maybe if I was a pro and had to think in terms of return of investment and profit I'd use software, but since I'm just a hobbyist I use what pleases me the most. Typically, that means gear with the best UI, not necessarily what sounds the best.

This was my problem with Logic, I just felt like I could get to grips with the UI, something about it made me feel uncomfortable. I was used to Reason (& Cubase to arrange) before this, and felt much more productive.

Liking Live so much more in that respect it's simpler, and I prefer the work flow. Despite what some Logic users think it sounds the same.
