Re: Slam remix competition
I might participate yeah. Pretty difficult to remix that one though... there are no interesting synths or nice percussion bits or anything to use from the original. It's like a super loopy DJ tool with not much happening.

Yeah you would have to introduce your own parts really.

Wow, business techno-a-go-go.
Uninspiring but a nice opportunity to just go wild.

Re: Slam remix competition
Yeah that's the problem for anyone entering this competition, I would bet money that if the entry doesn't fit into the 'business techno' mold, it won't win.

Re: Slam remix competition
Lots of the business techno stuff is fairly melodic though. Eg. modern Bumload. Maybe they are cheesy melodies stolen from old trance tracks, but still. This is just super loopy DJ tool kind of stuff.
I actually see this a lot in remix contests. The artist might even be actually quite good, but the track they've choses for the contest is like their most boring track ever. This particular track has absolutely nothing that catches the ear as the main motif that one could use in the remix.

It's pretty bland alright...
Re: Slam remix competition
Might give this a go just for the fun of it.
I'm wondering: If you add so much of your own elements that the original is barely even noticeable, is it still a remix?

Re: Slam remix competition
How about we do our own take and just post it here?

Re: Slam remix competition
I've heard plenty of released remixes over the years that you wouldn't recognise anything from the original. It bugged me for a while but sometimes you just have to let go of things.
It seems standard practice.

SOMA isn't a label that has a particularly diverse sound, for sure. It would have to fit their commercial leaning ballpark.Ben Kohonays wrote: ↑Fri Nov 24, 2023 12:27 amYeah that's the problem for anyone entering this competition, I would bet money that if the entry doesn't fit into the 'business techno' mold, it won't win.
Re: Slam remix competition
I had a couple of nights to work on a remix, as you guys have said there's not much to go at with hooks. I tried to centre it around the bass part but anything added to it and that is lost. I've not made any club techno for a while so good fun although my ears are not happy after last nights session.
