Not sure what to think of this.

Re: Bandcamp aquired by epic Games
I saw this on reddit. I predominantly use bandcamp to purchase tunes so I hope there isn't a plan to rip the site in half and change everything around. Maybe it will become closer to a spotify clone ? The mobile app as it stands is pretty poor and the search function is terrible.
As always though big corps buying up more sectors. Who knows where my money will end up now. I read epic games is part owned by a large Chinese corp too... is there anything you are specifically worried about?

i actually really hope they improve a few things, Favourite or Followed Artist/Label Release Radar e.g., a better search and "similiar Stuff" Region ... i actually collect all E-Mails i receive from Bandcamp in a own E Mail Folder and open every single E Mails Link when i need Music for Gigs/Podcasts ... absolutly pain in the Arse!
Buying Tracks, telling Paypal for every Single Track that i really want to buy it ... yeah ... 20 ... 30 times, just make a fucking Buy All Button and Split the Money with a Code one could write in 5 Minutes.
Only reason I use Bandcamp is to support the Acts and Labels, the browsing experience is pretty bad for the 21st Century (for Consumers ... as an Artist its pretty easy to get your Stuff up and make it shine to name something positive).

I always found bandcamp was missing a trick by not making it easier to find stuff. It's a bit like a domain for artists as opposed to a site for music. Could improve there...
As for the buyout, my sceptical self would expect the usual story, "all take" business as usual looking to monetize it where possible. I hope the approach is a bit more innovative than the obvious commercialise everything route...

I feel more or l less the same. I hope they will get some programming muscle to improve the service (which it seriously lacks), but I fear the corporate powers just wanting to squeeze every commercial potential out of it.subvers^v wrote: ↑Thu Mar 03, 2022 4:24 pmI always found bandcamp was missing a trick by not making it easier to find stuff. Not really, it's just usually not a good sign when bigger companies buy out smaller ones.

It is, who in turn also own a 9% stake in Spotify. Which, you know, for many who use Bandcamp as an anti-Spotify is a bit of kick in the teeth. Unsure whether this will be a good or bad thing. Right now it's just a thing.
