Melodic type techno that isn’t cheesy?

Post by Be without »

Can anyone recommend any decent techno on the more melodic side? Been having a listen to tale of us/afterlife stuff but it’s just too cheesy for me. And very samey and clean.

Erm... have you listened to anything that you liked - I think it would be easier to recommend you something then :D

But I like Underworld, and I also like the scene we have going here in Copenhagen, where it is sort of a moody take on trance, for the more melodic stuff:

youtu.be/n3WcBKMPMZw

youtu.be/gtcQnhuPGCM

I also really dug the minimal dub side of Berlin sound, when it got sort of narcotic in its use of effects and small details - this one is a true classic for me:

youtu.be/ksvAQgbYOH8

Are some of these what you are looking for?

I've been enjoying Surts latest Postdynamic release lately and it has some melodic vibes so you might find it interesting

Thanks, I love that 3rd video. Not really in to faster techno these days. Also a big Underworld fan. Their track ‘to heal’ can make me shed a tear.

I recommend you to check out the back catalogue of Inigo Kenney.
The topic kind of summarizes his style.

theres some melodic stuff that i enjoy alot on Index Marcel Fengler
https://indexmarcelfengler.bandcamp.com/
expert production too

then theres the copenhagen sound, Schacke, Sugar, Dold i would count Blue Hour to this style too abit
but its bordering with trance imo
https://bluehourmusic.bandcamp.com/music
https://arsenikrecords.bandcamp.com/album/mother-ep

Deniro makes solid rather housy techno, that definitely is melodic for me
https://taperecords.bandcamp.com/music

dynamic reflection label has some good melodic releases too imo

I realise I'm old, boring and nostalgia is not as good as it used to be.. but this record..I had a serious epiphany late one night in a Portuguese club. Almost religious. Maybe it's old fashioned now, but I still love it.

This was it. I think I even touched God's face in that club :D

HA! No matter what I say, you'll hate it! I guess you were still in primary school? ;) :D

I lived in Braga for a year, spent every weekend in Porto 2005-2006. Northern Portugal wasn't quite as cosmopolitan as i'd hoped. However we used to go to reggae, house, drum n bass, techno..the night always depended on what DJ was flying in

I think it was Industria? I also used to hang out in an after after after club on a boat. Forget the name. Some people used to drive up to Pacha at like 11am on a Sunday...but that was always too much for me

Man at that time i was 10 or 11 years old hahah dafuq.

hahah its funny because i already played at Industria. I was supposed to warm up for Speedy J but he cancelled last minute lmao. I'm glad you lived in Portugal man had no idea although Braga is definitely not a city that i like, but good that you enjoyed Portugal. :D :D

Those Cindy records were very catchy & melodic..

My mum was humming a megamix of them yesterday. AND she's completely deaf.

Lots of Detroit or Detroit inspired stuff from the 90s. Don't even know where to start.

Well here's one for starters:

And from one of the kings of "fast melodic techno", pre-Copenhagen sound:

YES!! It has been some time since I last went into the wonderful world of Dave Angel <3 marvellous! Do you know the guy Erosion Flow (Henrik Koefoed)? He is one of my friends - he usually creates music that is somewhere between house, techno and UK Bass (though lately he has taken up some IDM influences)... either way - he was the one who introduced me to Dave Angel, and that's a real treasure chest of amazing music!

I also think he was on that marvelous sound track for a Ghost In The Shell PlayStation game. That's a huge recommendation if you find it! I once stumbled upon it, when I was a student worker at DR

I know of Erosion Flow, checked some early releases, pretty cool. Don't let him fall into to the IDM trap! It's a dead end.

I actually think Dave Angel's a bit too slick, but there's a certain nostalgia for me to his tracks. I will always remember when I first heard Bounce Back in what 1992? Blew my mind then:
